As the days creep closer to the holiday, all the projects of this year are being wrapped up. One such endeavor that I am quite proud of goes as follows….
Carriage Rides in Downtown Harbor Springs
Horse and carriage rides in Harbor Springs are now available in downtown Harbor Springs. Approved by city council at Monday’s meeting, the rides will begin Friday, December 23 and continue on Fridays and Sundays through the winter ski season months.
From 2-6pm on Fridays and Sundays (excluding Christmas and New Year’s Day), visitors can tour Harbor Springs by horse and carriage. The “take-off” and “meeting” zone is on Bay Street near The Pier, The New York and the Bar Harbor, with other stops at the loading zones near the Island Bean; the Woolly Bugger; and the Hotel Janelle loading zone by Turkey’s and American Spoon. The carriage will depart from the Bay Street location every 30 minutes.
Brek-n-Ridge Farm owner Karin Offield spearheaded the idea for the horse and carriage operation. The owner of the operation and driver, local resident Scott Ward will provide visitors and residents of Harbor Springs a unique view and historical perspective of the community with the new service.
“What a great way to see Harbor Springs,” said Offield. “We have worked with area businesses and the Chamber of Commerce as well as the City of Harbor Springs to provide this new downtown opportunity. Carriage rides will complete the storybook holiday and skiing attraction for our winter guests’ downtown and shopping and dining experience. We will be adding sounds of jingle bells and horse hooves on pavement and the visual of an old fashioned horse-drawn carriage.”
There is no cost for the carriage rides; the cost of the service is supported by downtown businesses.
