Where in the World is Lingh ?

GESTÜT BIRKHOF

1/11/2011

SURF’s UP !!! An update on a little Lingh foal. The owner is “in NO hurry”

Nighttide

The update on little Surf  – NIGHTTIDE – is that she’s now just shy of nine months old (born April 12) and is a full-fledged weanling.  She lives in a pasture with four other warmblood girls about 20 miles or so from my house.  She handled weaning very well…once she realized that she was a horse and not a human!  She had never seen other babies before, and so acted as if she didn’t belong with them…and as a result tried to climb the fence in order to get back with her people.  After just a  few “explanations” she got it, and now she’s just growing up.  I (and other members of her fan club) visit her once or twice a week, depending on schedules.

Here’s a bit about her.

Surf’s personality remains absolutely stellar: She loves people and prefers to be with them.  To quote what the German judge repeatedly said about her at the Oldenburg GOV inspection, “She’s so sweet!”  Complete strangers go on and on about her because of her personality.  She is also amazingly non-spooky.  Nothing seems to faze her.  A few weeks ago we walked her all over a flapping grey tarp held down by tires in blustery conditions, and she didn’t bat an eye.  Incredible!

Physically, she’s growing well.  She’s getting taller, but she still looks “immature” in the sense that she’s still all legs.  So…hopefully that’s a sign that I won’t be dealing with joint issues!  She can take all the time she wants to grow…I’m in no hurry.

As far as her movement goes, she seems to prefer to travel like a hunter without much knee-bend.  I find that curious since Raven doesn’t move like that, and Lingh certainly doesn’t, either.  On the other hand, she is tremendously limber, with a shoulder range if you pick up a leg that is much more characteristic of Lingh.  However, Holly Simensen of the Oldenburg GOV said to me more than once after Surf was inspected that Lingh babies tend to take time to develop motion, and she said that Lingh, himself, did, too.  Again, I’m in no hurry whatsoever.  Besides, I’m getting the distinct impression that she may want to be a jumper (which began when she jumped out of a turn-out at age of two weeks!), which happens to dovetail with something else that was commented upon after the inspection–when Surf was 3-1/2 months old.  The person said that the woman assisting her was very interested in Surf as a hunter if I didn’t want her (which, of course, isn’t the case!)  No clue if she was just being nice or what, but it was an interesting comment nonetheless.  Whatever Surf ends up wanting to do is fine, and watching her grow and develop is half the fun!

I’ve attached a few pictures of the Munchkin.  The first shows a friend of mine holding her.  My friend is not very tall…those boots she’s wearing are kids’ boots!…so it’s not as if Surf is 20 hands tall.  The next two illustrate the typical situation with Surf: All the kids come out and mess with her, and she’s always gentle and obviously loves the attention.  The last picture is a cute head shot.  Please don’t mention the halter…the kids insist that she wear that ugly thing because it belonged to another horse in their “group”!  …but Surf doesn’t mind, as long as she’s getting petted, fooled with, and fed peppermints and cookies.

Happy New Year, thanks for asking how she is doing.

Tall legs !

Many hands on "Surf"

A LINGH’S SON, ‘BUSILIUS’ UPDATE FROM ENGLAND ! …A DREAM…

BUSILUS IN COMPETITION

Busi has been on holiday out in the field for the last 6 weeks but prior to that she got a regional qualification at Preliminary level and Novice Freestyle.  I am delighted and the regional’s will take place at the end of February so I am really looking forward to that.  She has also qualified for the Petplan Championships down in England at Hartpury in April so I hope to take her down south to that.  I plan on getting her back into work this week after her short  break.  She has been amazing and achieved alot in a short space of time.  I have attached a picture and also a copy of her picture and a small write up that appeared in the Horse and Hound. It has always been a dream of mine to get a picture in the Horse and Hound so now I have acheived that.  I am just delighted with her. I will keep you posted on our progress this year.

THE BACK STORY….

We purchased Busilus as a timid and quiet character back in October 2009 as a three year old, she was unbroken and unhandled and seemed very sharp indeed.  Due to the very hard winter in Scotland we were unable to start her training until the end of February but my what a fantastic horse she is turning into.  She very quickly turned into a quiet, trusting and very affectionate horse.  Within 2 days of handling she was catching and tieing up, having her feet picked up.  Right away we knew that she was going to be extremely intelligent.  Within a couple days of the long reins being introduced she was being long reined around the roads and tracks of the estate where we live, totally unphased by anything.  I have produced quite a few horses now and have never had one with such intelligence that is so keen to learn and please.  She really seems to love her work and when the time came to back her she was so quiet… a far cry from the worried filly we first saw back in October.  She is so trusting too and what a cheeky wee character she now has.  She just seems to love her work and has a great attitude, I think she will be a fantastic dressage prospect with the brain she has.  She gets alot of love and affection and I know that she too loves us and enjoys her new home and life… as soon as we go outside she comes over to the yard to see what we are doing…. so inquisitive.  I cannot wait to start riding her properly, she is the most exciting prospect I have ever had 🙂

Thanks
Sam

Making the dream a reality....a story in Horse and Hound ! Fantastic !

Lingh’s son Bellinghton, nice ride Mireille !

Bellinghton (Lingh x Farrington) – 20/11/2009

Mireille Klip sparkles with her horse Bellinghton (Lingh xFarrington) born 14/04/2006. They are featured on the website of the owner Karin Offield of Lingh.http: / / www.offieldfarms.com / Offield /-breeding stallions/Lingh. Blingh is a beautiful bay gelding and is reasonably short behind the saddle, and already has very strong hindquarters and shows a lot of  flexibility and natural upward movement.  He has an ideal character and together with Mireille it’s a good combination. Keep up the good work Mireille!  www.dressuur-training.nl

UPDATE ON LINGH’S SON IN WELLINGTON, FLORIDA

January 4th 2011, finds `’Clingh ” , two months now at his new home, here in Wellington.

Thus far Clingh has exceeded all expectations! His work schedule is steady and light, usually three  to four days in the ring, and one or two days trail riding. Often he spends about 15 minute lunging in the round pen, prior to his ring work.  Clingh’s natural balance and lightness is emerging…blossoming!

He is such a fast learner and absorbs things so quickly, we find ourselves challenged at times, to throw more new material  at him without overworking him. Each day he progresses forward and steadily….he concentration is complete…nothing ever distracts him from the job at hand.

This is Clingh! Along his beautiful disposition, which is gentle and affectionate, we call him our puppy!

CLINGH UNDER THE PALM TREES !

Happy New Year

I have been waiting for just the right New Years exclamation….” out with the old….in with the new ” and so I thought I would begin with the “out with the old”  photo for you !

Attention !! Technical comment regarding Lingh Semen….

Recently I wrote to one of the Lingh breeders, and this was her reply….

“Thank you for your interest- I had just wanted to report on how the good the semen looked! I bought it several years ago, and didn’t have a suitable mare until recently;  After thawing, my vet and I thought it looked really good. It was probably better than 50 %motility and the cells were moving straight , instead of in circles, like so many others I have seen. I like vigorous appearing cells- not only can they get a mare pregnant, but I think the quality of the newborn is also enhanced by vigor.( my humble opinion)  I will know on Monday whether she is pregnant, but the vet inseminated within 3 hrs of ovulation, which is probably not optimal. The mare is a Hanoverian by Rubenstein x Warkant, registered West.

The Lingh Foal, Bubblingh, Back Story from the sister to Blue Hors Matine

Ballaseyr Royale bred to Lingh 2005

The mare  was Ballaseyr Royale – Richard Davidson rode her at Athens, at the

Olympics, WEG, European Champs and in the World Cup Final. She is only surviving

relative to Blue Hors Matinee (they are out of the same mare).

“The Lingh was the first foal – Bubblingh is now 4 years old and fabulous. Very elegant, 3

super paces with easy ability for collection and freedom for extension.” reports Richard.

The Back Story : Richard Davison’s Olympic ride Ballaseyr Royale is to retire from international competition to a new career as a brood mare and will be put in foal to the KWPN stallion Lingh, the winner of the Grand Prix at the Las Vegas World Cup Final and Dutch Dressage Championship. Royale will be inseminated this week by Dutch vet Eric Klaui at the Pool House Equine Clinic in Lichfield using chilled semen.

Owner Gwendolyn Meyer discussed the plans with Richard whilst at the Athens Olympics last year and Ballaseyr Royale, a 15-year old Danish bred mare by Picandt, will remain at Richard’s yard, where what’s being called ‘the easibed nursery’ has already been built for her.
Richard and Ballaseyr Royale became known as Britain’s team ‘anchor’ after having produced so many reliable international performances. As well as the Athens Olympic Games, she was also a key member of the bronze medal winning team at the European Championships in 2003 and The World Equestrian Games 2002.
Richard and Royale became National Champions in 2003 and were well placed in the World Cup Final in Gothenberg in 2003. This year Royale competed in several World Cup qualifiers throughout Europe.
Richard says of Royale, “It’s been an absolute privilege to ride her. She’s a really strong character and tries every time. Any mistakes in our performances were always mine, never hers. Gwendolyn lives in the USA and has had very little chance to personally enjoy all Royale’s successes. Her support therefore has been amazing and her decision to leave Royale with us in the UK is very touching.”

Holiday Greetings to my friends in Sweden : We wish you a very Merry Christmas

Karin and Mattias after a special performance / photo by Lisa Hoff

This photograph was taken last year…but what a year it was !   Lingh was being worked under saddle, being legged up and ridden by Swedish rider Mattias Jansson. Lingh was trail riding and galloping on the track, enjoying all the joys of being a breeding stallion still in work after his stable accident in 2008 in the USA. While at Anky’s, I had asked about finding a rider in Sweden to help get Lingh back into condition. I was introduced to Mattias and he lived next door to Flyinge!  Mattias and I had a great time working out a riding program for Lingh and Lingh found his new home and rider in Sweden fantastic ! My thanks to Mattias for all your time and attention.  www.mattiasdressyr.se/

LINGH GLOWS IN THE GLOBE

A La Celle

Bo Jenå is known for many things but many carry warm memories of his à la Celle showings with the Swedish stallion Maraton. Now we have traveled 20 years forward in time from that point and it takes more to wow a crowd. Bo Jenå stepped up to the challenge with Lingh on long rein and oh what a performance!

The world-renowned Grand Prix stallion, who had his first Swedish foal crop with shining honor’s this season at Flyinge in Sweden, Lingh’s fifth crop all in all, still does the ballet on a very high level. To the cheers and rhythmical clapping from the crowd he showed himself with real freshness in movements and body, impressive after many years in sports. With feisty and elastic steps in elegant lateral work, managed by Bo Jenå from the ground, the glittering athlete danced to the sound of “In the Mood”. When the music changed to “Simply the Best” and Lingh continued in passage the roar in the Globe increased – when the piaff came it became close to the boiling point.

Lingh showed proof of his electricity but Bo Jenå calmly guided him on and when “Life is Life” tuned in the whole arena clapped in sync to a very rhythmical piaffing stallion. No performance by hand is complete without extended trot, which is extremely demanding of the handler. And Lingh didn’t disappoint anyone – those who remember him from the World Cup Finals with Edward Gal got a flashback of the force and elegance he moves with. Under immense cheer the duo of elegantes showed off and finished with the classical exit out of the arena. Karin Reid Offield, Lingh’s American owner, Edward Gal and Lingh’s former groom, Vanessa, watching from ringsides, were all touched in their hearts by the showings of Lingh, and glad to have him back in the arena to perform.

This is where we saw it first – but not for the last time. Lingh and Bo Jenå – already a classic.

What a horse !

Stockholm Performance “Report in Swedish” Photos will follow !

Lingh glänser i Globen

taktfast piafferande hingst.
Under oerhört

Germany and your breeders ! Lingh’s Mother- Line

This month Lingh has been receiving attention from your country. On his own merit, the Bloodline of Lingh ala Flemmingh represents the diversity that the breeder of today  is looking for. Lingh’s mother line is very strong and I offer the following information about this influence.

Lingh’s dam Gazelle has been rewarded with the highest mare prizes of the KWPN: Ster, Pref, Prest. Gazelle’s sire Columbus jumped at international level with Jos Lansink. Gazelle’s line goes back further to the famous thoroughbred stallions Lucky Boy xx and Uppercut xx. This fantastic breeding family has already produced 7 approved stallions.

Lucky Boy has had a stellar jumping career. He placed well at CHIO Verona, Cervia, San Patrignano, Rome, Modena, Palermo, Bagnaia, Ascona, Münster, Dortmund and Spangenberg. In 2003, he joined Marcus Ehning’s Stable and he was victorious at the Masters in Vigo, runner up at the Audi-Championat in Münster, 3rd place in the finale of the Sires of the World competition in Hertogenbosch and 4th place in the Championat of Dortmund.

At a young age Lucky Boy was approved for the stud-book Unire (Italy) and later he was approved by both the French stud-book Selle Francais and the Belgian stud-book, S.B.S., on account of his achievements in the sport. Lucky Boy has been the No. 1 Stallion in Italy based on the winnings of his Offspring for the last 7 years! From the 2008-2009 KWPN Stallion Show, there are three Lucky Boy offspring that will attend the second round in  ‘s Hertogenbosch in theNetherlands.  Another offspring from Lucky Boy, out of the dam of Coriano, by the name of “Ai Ai Ai”  won the VSN-Final Championship for 3-year old jumping-horses!  This incredible stallion was also approved by the Holsteiner Verband (Stamm 776) and the Irish Horse Board in 2007.

Lucky Boy is the sire of a series of international jumping horses, of which his most famous offspring are Calando (Björn Nagel) and Cabinett I (Dirk Schröder). Lucky Boy has over 200 mares worldwide that foaled in 2008.

Uppercut XX sired 15 approved sons, including Nabuur, an international show jumper who went on to sire many international jumpers including The Saint ridden by Alwin Schockemohle of Germany. Uppercut’s sire Fightig Don was a grandson of Sir Gallahad III. Sir Gallahad III was a French Thoroughbred of tremendous influence in US racehorse industry.

Sir Gallahad sired 65 Graded stakes race winners and was the United States Champion Sire four times. He was the sire of Preakness Stakes winner High QuestJockey Club Gold Cup and multiple stakes winner Fenelon, and a record three Kentucky Derby winners: Gallahadion,Hoop Jr., and Gallant Fox, who won the U.S. Triple Crown. Sir Gallahad also sired Roman, who won eighteen races and in turn sired fifty-four stakes winners, including Champion and Preakness Stakes winner Hasty Road.

Lingh at Stockholm….with Bo Jena – A legendary event

IN ENGLISH !!

A legendary and fantastic show for quite some time ago will return in new guise. Many will remember with admiration and regret when Bo Jena showed up marathon a la Celle in what was then the Globe. It was magical, spectacular and hugely popular.

That was the whole package, Mara’s huge leg movements, the catchy music and eagerly ran Bo Jena. One wondered if he could keep up. His return is very exciting to witness

There will be no marathon but again at the Globe is well known Bo Jena, who now also is our Swedish head coach in dressage. Mara’s successor will be the stallion Lingh. We are pleased to see Bo Jena run again.  But above all it will be exciting to see Lingh.

A very clever and fortunate coincidence. Double world champion and triple world record holder, Edward Gal,is here for us in Ericsson Globe. Before he got his huge success with Totila it was with Lingh his most championship horse. A welcome return, one can assume.

Many have talked about and wanted to see something like that Mara’s legendary performances. Now we get the chance. We are very excited.

Considering a Tool Box Symposium in your region ?

The Tool Box Introduction letter is ready to send out. In the letter you will discover the reasons why the Tool Box is a great event to schedule this year. Contact  Karin at info@offieldfarms.com for more information.  These two stories were published recently in America’s premier Dressage magazine. Reprinted here, compliments of Dressage Today.

REGARDING THE TOOL BOX:

We received this letter of recommendation today….

“The Tool Box Symposium was one of the best events I’ve attended. We, my son and I, were looking for what kind of instructor we could learn best from, and how the lessons could be shaped to learning styles. I’m interested in the teaching of HOW to teach, not just the materials. What is it that makes it worthwhile to go to a particular instructor to get the most positive transformational “aha!” moments?  Or, how to get the most learning bang for the buck. The Tool Box was intense and liberating, with many opportunities to talk with everyone, be they presenters, riders, instructors, or auditors. Karin did a brilliant job of mixing people and changing their locations, so they wouldn’t get into a small rut. Having the sports psychologist was a stroke of brilliancy, as she helped all of us communicate better. The lessons just got better and better, as instructors added her new ideas, and riders felt more comfortable in describing what they felt and were frustrated in, in their understanding. The auditors added their observations and everyone stayed positive and helped each other. There were no mean spirited comments or actions allowed, so people didn’t feel so vulnerable.
I not only would go to another Tool Box if it were handled as well as Karin’s, I would knock myself out to sign up early, sign up to be a rider and help put it on. It was that brilliantly done. Excellent all the way around.”
Big Hugs!
Robin

Happy Thanksgiving everyone !

Holiday Riding in Michigan

Chideon – Like Lingh, a no nonsense character ! Very Happy Breeders.

Hi Karin,

How great! I saw Chideon on the lingh-website!
You wondered what his character  is like,..Chideon is realy easy going, he has a few things inherited from his mom, and that’s the part of no nonsense and never waste any energy on things.
Like he would never jump aside from something scary. He will just take a look and decide that it’s not so scary and he will move on. In his stall he is a really good boy. He is stabled in our sporthorses-barn and there are a few mare’s in his neighbourhood but he only greets them and then he’s quiet.
He loves to stand in the crossties and he really like’s being brushed and groomed. He would never paw the ground and he is never impatient.

His sister is a little less easy. She has a huge personality. And she feels a little like a princes. She is almost hot under saddle and always wants to work. You can ride her an hour or two and then she probably stil wants to work.
She has the same mother as the stallion, but she has the same colour as Lingh. She has no other marks. In stable and in the field she is really social, easy with other horses.
In my next mail i hope to send you a few picture’s of the mare.

Til next time!
Grts Jorg, a Happy Breeder of Lingh foals !  Thank you for all the stories !  Karin
