…….TOP SPORT…What it's all about…..
A COLLEAGUE WROTE THIS ABOUT DRESSAGE ….” I LIKE to see competitions where the eventual placings are unpredictable and where rides reflect how truly challenging the Grand Prix is. Horses are not and never will be machines – but this to me is something to be celebrated, it’s an essential part of the beauty of dressage because truly beautiful harmony is so fragile, so delicate, a constant conversation between horse and rider that shows we are always learning and experiencing with them and we’re never ‘done’ training or achieving. How dull dressage would become if every performance were just a repeat of faultless perfection!
To me, enjoying dressage is not about perfection and nothing less, it’s also a journey that is never finished, a profound relationship between horse and rider which is enriched by every ride no matter its quality as a performance. How much you can learn from watching closely that journey in its more difficult moments as well as the brilliant – it’s proven in the popularity of videos like the one with Zizi Top and HansPeter. I’m not disappointed to see Anky have a tough ride – she and Salinero are like an old married couple who talk every day – sometimes the conversation involves raised voices and disagreement, but it’s what she does next and how he responds which is so fascinating. Likewise for Totilas to have errors – this is not a failing, its an insight. He is so young still and I want to know who he is, see how he develops and how the journey between him and Edward progresses.
I watch top competitions because it inspires me not just with high scores and beauty, but encourages me to remember the learning journey. It takes highs AND lows to make such a fascinating, complex art! ”
Thanks you W. ……….

Lingh will be the Star of the Show, tomorrow night at
the Flyinge Stallion Show !
THE STORY WE WROTE FROM LAST YEAR …2009……
Friday the 13th of March proved to be a fantastic night in Southern Sweden at Flyinge. In the cold spring weather walking through candlelight, the famous dressage stallion Lingh entered the main arena in Flyinge once again reunited with his former rider Edward Gal.
For Edward the moment was filled with emotions. After all, it is Lingh that was the horse for his high rise to the top of the world as a dressage rider. He trained the horse since 4 years old for a period over 10 years. Lingh looked absolutely gorgeous together again with Edward. The Dutch team of Edward’s could not hold the tears in their eyes when watching this majestic horse perfoming once again. A lot of people cried.
Lingh looked like he had to rethink again how Dutch was spoken, after 2 and a half years of American english with his owner and rider Karin Offield. Also more recently now all the swedish spoken from his team in Flyinge. But very quickly he seemed relaxed and obviously very satisfied to realize he knew what was asked of him. All the tricks of GP dressage looked as easy as they could and Lingh showed his amazing qualities especially in his changes on every stride and his piaffe and passage. His pirouettes were spot-on !
The dark evening, with all the stallions of Flyinge being warmed up and prepared for their performances in the main arena, was full of atmosphere and a little bit of magic. There is something very special about these imposing father animals when they are all together in a chilly arena and smelling the spring in the air. The nature obviously is letting them know that a new season is starting, but their modern life is still controlled by the stallion masters, riders and grooms. The Flyinge staff dressed up in19th century traditional clothing gave the stallion show the extra element of a theater performance and a full hall of spectators could once again see what Flyinge has to offer for the breeding season of 2009.
The possibility for Edward to be able to ride him again was very appreciated and he thanked many times Karin for inviting him to do this. Edward also genuinely thanked the Swedish audience for surrounding him on this moment and he promised to be back in Sweden soon!

One Rider’s Journey: An Education in Becoming an Educator
By Gwen Dordick
Boulder Valley Dressage Youth Connection Liason
Recently, when poring over an issue of Dressage Today, I noticed an article focused on the future of dressage. Included in that article were ideas from some of today’s dressage leaders and visionaries. One of those visionaries is Karin Offield. I decided to find out more about her background, what led Karin to become an advocate for education and what role she believes education will play in the future of dressage.
“As a lifelong horse lover, I have always wanted to share that joy and love with others,” Karin told me, “and I had the opportunity to do that when I co- founded El Rojo Grande Ranch in 1992 in Sedona, Arizona. This remarkable ranch was a place where people could have the opportunity to ride and learn about horses. From riding lessons and trail rides to dressage demonstrations and art exhibits, El Rojo Grande Ranch offered something for everyone in our community. This was my way of not only helping people to enjoy horses, but to also help create fans for the horse sports. Once people are introduced they can become fans for life.”
“I have had an amazing cross section of education and counsel over the years. I have always loved to watch riding and horses and being involved in multiple equestrian disciplines has helped me become a better horseman. I have ridden lots of stallions, cutting horses, reining horses, roped, and even driven a little. We had mules in Sedona and I had a tandem team that I loved to drive. Then there were always the trail rides…I love to bushwhack the trails!”
After growing up riding horses in Aspen, Colorado and showing throughout Colorado with her Father, Karin rode and learned with three-day event trainer Jonas Irbinskas, California horsemen Jimmy Williams and Ken Nordstrom, equitation trainer Richard Keller, jumper champion Jimmy Kohn, east coast equitation trainer Ronnie Mutch, hunter champion Patricia Heuckeroth, and world renowned jumper coach Carl Knee. Her introduction to dressage included working with World Cup Champion Steffen Peters, Spanish Olympic Coach and Belgian Trainer Jan Bemelmans, Olympian Michael Poulin, Canadian coach and American Olympic champion Robert Dover, and Dutch champion and three time Olympic Gold Medal winner Anky Van Grunsven. and most recently, the Swedish Chef D’Equipe and master long liner Bo Jena.
After a long career in hunters and jumpers, Karin began concentrating on dressage about 14 years ago. Initially she conquered each of the levels with manager and dressage coach Michael Etherly. “Until 2004 Michael was with me every step of the way. We were a good team and he took me through the introductory levels all the way to Intermediare II.” Along the way, Karin won four United States Dressage Federation (USDF) regional championships, at FEI Level. Then Karin and Micheal went to Europe and her international interest in dressage really took off. In 2003 and 2004 Karin and Michael traveled throughout Europe trying horses and seeing venues where the great training of Europe’s top stars took place.
Since early 2005 Karin began training with Robert Dover on the finesse and details of Grand Prix. His help and advice solidified what had taken place over a long career with horses and in competition.
In addition to her competitive career, teaching riding students in the jumping and dressage disciplines, and her breeding of stallions: Lingh, Louisville and Tiamo Trocadero, Karin now focuses on dressage education. Karin’s mission is to get more people involved with dressage as well as offer educational opportunities for those that already love it.
Examples of Karin’s involvement with dressage education projects include the USDF Advanced Young Rider Program, the Dressage Foundation’s book, The View from C, sponsorship of the 2005 Dressage World Cup Finals, the executive producer’s role in the production and airing of Robert Dover’s television series The Search for America’s Next Dressage Star, the organization of and co-sponsorship of the Swedish Breeders Meeting held at the 2009 World Cup as well as initiating and securing Robert Dover’s amazing commentary delivered during NBC’s 2009 World Cup coverage.
Karin’s latest project is the Dressage Tool Box Symposium accredited through USDF’s University program: an innovative clinic designed to advance the teaching skills of instructors, enhance the performance skills of dressage riders, and hone the observation skills of auditors. Employing a unique format, she will act as moderator and as a registered instructor and, hopefully, also as a rider. The Dressage Tool Box Symposium, accredited through USDF’s University program and future Tool Box Symposiums will be offered to GMO’s in all regions in 2011.
Offield’s web business, www.lingh.nl, is the sponsor for the first symposium to be held in Bay Harbour/Petosky, Michigan on May 14th through 16th, 2010. Karin was quoted in the September 2009 issue of Dressage Today in an article entitled “Into the Future.” “I would designate the best facilities in a region and label them national training centers for a two-year pilot program and see what can be accomplished.” Karin explained that, “This Tool Box Symposium is my idea and answer to get this program {the national training centers} off the ground.” Karin has happily begun teaching what she has learned over the years. Because she sees her mount Lingh as her greatest teacher, she encourages participants to bring their “school masters” to the Symposium.
Karin encourages dressage riders and all horse enthusiasts all over the world to share their passion for equestrian sports with newcomers. “Participate in the educational offerings available to you in order to grow your own skills and accomplishments, and, when possible, contribute your experience and expertise to assist others in their goals.”

More Character Info on Childeon and his sister, a LINGH filly.
Hi Karin,
How great! I saw Chideon at the Lingh-website!
You wondered what his character is like,..Chideon is really easy going, he has a few things inherited from his mom, and that’s the part of no nonsense and never waste any energy on things. Like he would never jump aside from something scary. He will just take a look and decide that it’s not so scary and he will move on. In his stall he is a really a good boy. He is stabled in our sporthorses-barn and there are a few mare’s in his neighbourhood but he only greets them and then he’s quiet.
His loves to stand in the crossties and he realy like’s brushing and grooming. He would never scrape and he is never impatient.
His Lingh sister is a little less easy. She has a huge personality. And she feels a little like a princess. She is almost hot under saddle and always wants to work. You can ride her an hour or two and then she probably still wants to work!
She has the same mother as Chideon, but she has the same colour as Lingh. She has no other marks. In the stable and in the field she is really social, and easy going with other horses.
In my next mail i hope to send you a few picture’s of the mare.
Til next time!
Grts Jorg
Thank you so much for keeping us up to date !!! Love, Lingh
Why to Choose Lingh as the father of your NEXT Foal ?
Lingh’s Character ! He is a kind horse, always behaved in his stall with grooms, stable hands and me ! In the cross ties he stands patiently waiting for us to brush, saddle, and care for him. He is calm and patient. At the mounting block he is quiet and waits for his rider to climb aboard. The entire time in America I believe he was lunged twice, even on his ” best feeling days”. I never once rode him in draw reins and sure he will buck at times…but he only bucked me OFF one time !!! I am really pleased with Lingh’s character and the emails I receive are very complementary and happy about his babies – they are like Lingh !
Contact his agents, they are located in SWEDEN, GERMANY, HOLLAND, NEW ZEALAND AND THE UNITED STATES.
WE WANT TO WORK WITH YOU AND BRING A LINGH FOAL INTO YOUR LIFE !

Words from a Lingh Breeder in America- Pictures soon !
DarLingh is great. So flawlessly correct legwise, he has an incredible head
& a long pencil neck, this HUGE wither sliding down to this phenomenol
long shoulder, definately built uphill….way uphill !!! He has a fairly short
back but with that wither, shoulder and neck there will be alot of horse
in front of you when he’ll be ridden. And the whole package ends with
a terrific hip just destined to have alot of power. The most willing
personality, he really oozes “riding horse’. If I had to find a flaw I’d have
to say his height. He’s about 15.1 or 2 right now. He will mature well over
16 hands but he’s definately “modern-type”. Although quite big in
the chest & hip with that wither and neck he becomes quite refined.
As soon as the mud is gone, the grass turns green and he sheds his
winter duds I’ll take some pic’s and do a video for your collection.
thanks, my friend Daryl, all the best with DarLingh, Karin
