Lingh and Matts

Lingh and Matts

A HAPPY OWNER OF A LINGH THREE YEAR OLD!

I received a note from Bellinghton’s owner.  (His nickname is Blingh !!)  Bellinghton is turning four in the spring. Mireille said “Everything is going very well! His character is nice and easy going. When i read all the information about his father I think he has the same characteristics and he is really willing to work for you. At this moment we train together with Jules Jansen ( he also takes lessons from Edward Gal) to take him to a higher level. Everything is going so easy, that it feels like he did it all before! ”

On Lingh.nl I have asked breeders to send me pictures of their mares and the foals.  This is Mireille’s submission:

Lingh is a great choice when choosing a father for your future foal.

To breed a top horse is a breeder’s dream. Lingh leaves his fantastic

type and fine character to his babies. Lingh represents generations

of top performance breeding and is suitable as a stallion for most

types of mares.

Any photos or impressions of these events will be most appreciated !

Good luck everyone !

What's happening in Europe…..

My arrival in Europe for marred by the non arrival of my luggage. So it is !  The Global Dressage Forum was amazing for me. I wrote the following….

The Global Dressage Forum

Impressions by a Rider, I am so glad I attended this year !

The moment I arrived I was excited to see old friends and make new friends too. As a rider this year I am taking home to my stable more and better information than in the years past.  The update by the FEI made me feel work was being done on behalf of the horse.  The presentation by Instructor and rider, Dr. Meyners and Heike Kemmer made me think of my body from a different perspective – and I have been a gym rat for many many years.  I think my horse will appreciate me upon his back, more than before. I certainly know where to send my students who can’t sit the trot.  Rachel Murray – wow what can I say about her presentation. I have thought long and hard about all the harm that my decisions have caused in the stable yards of my horses over all these years. Today I am better prepared to take care of my horse- as a rider and as a stable keeper. Thank you Rachel ! Judge Katrina Wurst – she makes me want to design a new freestyle. As a rider – my hats off to you for doing all this work and bringing forth your presentation in a timely manner.  Vet Frits Sluyter taught me as a rider to recognize the difference of medication for the horses benefit and medicine for selfish performance enhancement. His talk also made me realize that the circle of responsibility around me cannot be taken too lightly. It will change the way I hire and practice with my team in the future. My horse thanks you too !  Thank you Frits.

Blacksmith Rob Renirie…..now I know that a horseman can never stop learning. Thank you for your help in remembering that no matter how smart we think we are, we can always learn something more that helps our horses. I know Lingh was in very good hands with your help. Your talk was great.  Statistic expert David Strickland will hopefully release his facts on an e-learning site. I would like to look at them more carefully. We are lucky to have him with us in the sport.  If you didn’t learn from his lecture you were sleeping ! Coach Tom de Ridder gave me some new teaching techniques.  I really like the way he laid out the importance of communication between client and coach. That is an age old problem that is rarely addressed.  Finally there was Steffen Peters…and he was really great. His Mom was there too which made his stay even better. The meals together, the camaraderie and the family that hosts this each year are to be commended. It was a productive two days and I hope to attend a Dressage Forum next year if the Bartels Family will have us !!

The Forum was the place that my friend Laurens van Lieren and I presented the first draft of The Stallion Club – A Members only Club for Dressage Breeding Stallions that have competed internationally in CDI’s.  This list calls the stallions to attention that genetically, environmentally, physically and by their training make them stand apart. They are special, and we created this Club in their honor. They all survived the test of time and now can be recognized for this great achievement. The Club will take some time to organize and we are searching for people to help us research the stallions and their careers. Our colleague Dirk Willem Rosie is supportive and has offered to help !

The next few days were taken by seeing Lingh three year olds. I traveled through Belgium and Holland. I have made several posts of these youngsters with photos.  Everyone was welcoming. I hope to post some more videos as soon as I learn how to do it more easily.

My favorite Belgium adventure was the stop in Essen, Belgium to visit with Johan and Penny Rockx. After a long and relaxed after riding sitting around drinking couple hours we ventured into Antwerp and had an amazing evening. Johan is well versed in the history and color of this fanciful city of incredible ornate architecture. With us that evening were Geoff Butler, Joel (her handsome husband )and Angela from Horse Girl TV, a great gal from New Zealand whose name I will get asap.  I didn’t drink so after dinner I thought it would be a great idea to jump on a retro bike a gentleman offered me and go for a spin around the square. This retro bike – one of three – these fellows were photographing in the square that night was remarkable. I began to ride off and quickly realized that the angle of the seat and the handlebars was set up for a man whose legs must have been 2 feet long but the seat was well above my butt.  I declared a “whoa” and went on with the walked sightseeing. The drive back to Udon that evening was the worst I have experienced. The fog was thick and the drive dangerous and intimidating. I am secure driving about Europe but that night spooked me.

My next days were spent visiting best friends Fransje and Peter, my western friend Archie and family in Vorstenbosch and Anky and Sjef for Sunday lunch and favorite colleagues at Anky’s  (Lisbeth….I didn’t see enough of you… ) seeing the newest stable improvements with great dinners and finally visits with the families of Maucca Karki for Halloween and Deborah and Claartje Van Andel of DressageDirect fame for weekend dinners. Thank you all for your Dutch, Belgium and Finish hospitalities.

Here is my boy ! Lingh In Sweden at Flyinge, built in 1661

I was so excited to see Lingh, it’s been a long summer in America for me and finally I am back with him in Sweden.  I think he was especially glad to see me, and for the tangerines I brought for him to eat. He loves anything orange !   I sent best wishes too from Edward and Vanessa and Nicole.  There is much to film, photograph and say but I thought this was a nice video I took today. Walk with Lingh

He looks super. His character is so good and all of his caretakers at Flyinge love to care for him and handle him.  Here is a video of the Birthday Girl ( its her BIRTHDAY tomorrow !!)  that takes care of him on the weekends.  Lingh and Stine, in the stable

Tomorrow Lingh, Matts and I are going for a long walk, so I hope the sun shines and its pretty so I can show off Flyinge and show where Lingh gets to walk.

Testing in Holland for Beau

Beau (Vegas Ad)
While in Holland last week I was so interested to follow the progress of Beau, Lingh's Reserve Champion three year old who won in Den Bosch last year at the KWPN dressage stallion selections. He has been at the testing until last Friday when he went home. The judges I spoke with liked him so much but felt the testing was too much for him while he is growing into a four year old body. I confirmed this springtime invitation given to Beau with my colleague at the KWPN who told me how disappointed they were to send him home but that he was the one stallion invited back in the spring to be considered by the panel of judges choosing the new stallions for the KWPN. It's obvious they like him very much ! From the owners I heard that he is home now in work to be stronger, as he grows bigger. I am very pleased with the stallion judges and that Beau's owner can give this amazing youngster the opportunity to become the best candidate for a prospective stallion. I know if Lingh could talk, he would agree and be very pleased.

Meet Blingha and Bright-Lingh

IMG_1876IMG_1951 Both this gelding and mare are turning 4 this spring.  They have been ridden less than 20 times and both Lingh’s are considered super sport horse types by their owners, breeders and the men and women that have paid attention to these two individuals.  They are quiet and easy to handle.

As a stallion owner, it is important to me to discover early on what Lingh is producing.  He is an older stallion, his offspring are not even 4 years old yet, so it’s urgent that I encourage mare owners to use Lingh – to breed to him – in order for him to sire some great sport horses while he is still alive!

As soon as I can I will be up loading some videos I have made or received.  If you have a nice video or photographs – send them to me here at info@offieldfarms.com.   Let me introduce your Lingh’s to our audience!

Welcome to Sweden !!

After a long drive, seeing several Lingh colts and fillies, I made it to Sweden !   I have pictures and short videos….more soon !

Flyinge is the largest and best-known breeding station in Sweden and one of the world’s oldest active National studs dating back to the 12th century. The stud is situated about 15 kilometers from Lund in the southern Sweden and was established in 1661 as a Royal stud by King Carl Gustaf X Sweden.

Since 1983 Flyinge AB is owned by a trust and has a wide range of activities, including breeding of the Swedish Warmblood, equestrian sports, veterinary medicine, training and various events.

Flyinge is an outstandingly beautiful place where historic buildings contrast with ultramodern architecture; it comes complete with chattering storks on the roofs and magnificent stallions in the stables. [LINGH IS HERE !!]

Flyinge is open for visitors every day between 9 and 4 pm, and you are welcome to walk around the grounds and see the stables. Take the opportunity to stop off at Flyinge Restaurant & Café which serves high quality food.

Welcome to Flyinge!

SEE YOU THERE !

OLD NEWS, BUT SOMEONE ASKED ABOUT LINGH'S BREEDING SEASON LAST YEAR !

A note from Karin Offield and Susanne Hassler // Originally published July-August 2009

“We agree in the value of a public statement from us, about how common this kind of drop in a stallion’s semen production can be when a stallion experiences fever for any number of reasons. We can create this into an opportunity to educate the breeding public and media outlets about spermatogenesis, hopefully defusing some of the hysteria that is so typical when the breeders and media learn that the stallion is not ‘perfect’ at this time.”
Susanne continues:  “I always remind breeders that these are creatures–not machines–susceptible to transient episodes of colds or fevers just like the rest of us.  I also think it is wise to note his pregnancy rate achieved during this period, reassuring the community of his continued fertility.”

Lingh by Flemmingh x Columbus

In early May 2009, some press hit the internet and magazines about Offield Farms’ stallion Lingh, stationed at the National Stud of Sweden Flyinge. The stallion had experienced a transient fever earlier in the spring and, as very commonly happens for stallions, this brief health episode showed up several weeks later most tangibly in the quality of his semen. Spermatogenesis (the production of sperm cells) takes 60-days and any health event for a stallion which results in even a slight fever will interrupt spermatogenesis. While Lingh continued to produce sperm cells during his brief ‘cold,’ the quality of those cells’ motility was significantly lowered. The excellent professional management team at Flyinge, Sweden’s National Stud who are committed to the successful representation of their stationed stallions and the success of their breeders, chose to contact the mare owners and inform them that until Lingh’s semen quality had returned to normal, mares would need to be brought to Flyinge for breeding, given the lower volume of quality semen available from the stallion at that time.

The problem was short lived.

By June 5th, less than 30 days later,  Flyinge resumed sending semen from Lingh 1185
As noted in a Flyinge Press Release:  “Lingh is again producing high quality semen. Flyinge is immediately resuming the transport of Lingh semen to breeders all over the country.”
Lingh has shown excellent pregnancy results, with over 70% pregnancies among examined mares so far this season. Even most of the mares inseminated with his slightly less motile semen in the beginning of May have become pregnant.

“I am very pleased that we again can send Lingh semen to breeders outside of Flyinge”, said Karl-Henrik Heimdahl, Breeding Manager of Flyinge AB. “Lingh with his excellent international show record, great dressage pedigree, his type and excellent movements has attracted a lot of interest among Swedish breeders. I am therefore very happy to again be able to recommend Lingh to mare owners all over the country interested in high quality breeding.”

lingh
Lingh in Flyinge

Ridsport magazine was one of the first to write about this event at its onset and commented how very professional it was, on the part of Flyinge Breeding Director Dr. Karl-Henrik Heimdahl, to release this information in such a trustworthy way. Ridsport further commented that Flyinge had served to provide outstanding management of the situation and a great example to the breeding community as a whole. The good news, much as was anticipated, is that Lingh’s semen quality returned to normal by early June. Pregnancy rates for the mares bred at Flyinge during this brief intermission of the shipped semen season remained excellent and Flyinge has since resumed the shipment of Lingh’s semen to mare owners across Scandinavia.

Semen frozen from Lingh to meet the international market was frozen during the months of December through February, 2009, well in advance of this minor health episode which caused this recent hic-cup in the quality of his semen. The mares bred early this season with Lingh’s new inventory of frozen semen have reported first cycle pregnancies. Offield Farms and Hassler Dressage are pleased to continue to provide quality frozen semen to represent this outstanding stallion to mare owners across North America.

RESCHEDULED !! TOOL BOX SYMPOSIUM IN MAY 2010, MICHIGAN

2088

For Immediate Release: October 12, 2009:

Tool Box Symposium@ SCHEDULED  MAY 15TH AND 16TH 2010

This is going to be a fun event and should be very stimulating.  If you are within driving distance to us…. we are up north but south of Canada!! (2 hours north of Traverse City in Petoskey)…. please pass on the information about the Symposium, put it on your calendar and get your instructors and upper level riders in your area to participate. (See below about 2-3 level riders with ambitions!  What better time than now to investigate and learn more about teaching technique, dressage teaching styles, your neighbors in the Dressage business – the riders and the trainers, all in an environment of fair play. The lessons we all want to learn really are simple; sometimes it is in the way they are explained that makes it easy or hard. This Tool Box Symposium@ of Dressage Lessons is a not to be missed event.

Bay Harbor Equestrian is a perfect location for a Training Center of the Future. If you read the September 2009 issue of Dressage Today, we suggested that great facilities around the United States be chosen for a 2-year pilot program where Dressage and Young Horse’s training can be advanced. Bay Harbor is a perfect choice for this type of program – it’s achingly beautiful, it has lots of stalls, good arenas and the management is for any program that is educational. All the information on this Symposium is below. We hope you will all sign up and attend.

In Bay Harbor, MI    MAY 15TH AND 16TH 2010, RESCHEDULED FROM  October 2009

Hosts the Inaugural Training Centers of the Future Dressage Symposium

This first event in Northern Michigan is open to Dressage Instructors and Upper Level Riders as Participants and open to Auditors of all levels as participants.

The Symposium will be held to advance the teaching skills of the instructors and the learning skills of the dressage riders in the region around the Bay Harbor Equestrian Club. The trainers that teach and those that ride and compete in the upper levels and those that aspire to do so are asked to select “the Lesson ” they are good at teaching. The upper level riders and instructors that bring their horses to the Symposium are asked to choose “the Lesson” they wish to be taught.   Together, the Auditors, the Riders and the Instructors will advance their understanding of Dressage, how it is taught, how students can be given lessons in different styles and what can be accomplished by bringing the Dressage Community together for an interactive weekend at a great equestrian facility, perfectly suited for this event.

The Symposium hopes to draw participants from the Midwest dressage community. The cost is $75 for overnight boarding (one or two nights), $50 per participant – instructor, rider or auditor for the 2 days.

Jakki Baltzer, manager and trainer for Bay Harbor, facilitates the Symposium. Jakki has been training for BHEC since 1999. She took over management in 2007 and is working to create an open minded, educational environment for dressage and any other riding enthusiasts. BHEC is a 36-stall facility that offers year round boarding and training, monthly clinics with USDF judge Maryal Barnett and annual visits from Bettina Drummond and Buck Brannaman. Jakki and BHEC are very excited to be the first facility to host a symposium dedicated to greater education of “training” trainers and riders in the Dressage discipline.

Karin Offield hosts the Symposium. Karin is an upper level rider and has happily begun teaching what she learned over the years. Her Dressage Instructors have been Mike Etherly, Maryal Barnett, Steffen Peters, Michael Poulin, Jan Bemelsman, Dr. Volker Moritz, Robert Dover, and Anky van Grunsven. Karin spent many years teaching and coaching students in equitation and jumping before turning to dressage.  Her greatest professor is Lingh, Edward Gal’s world famous ride, now owned by Karin.  Together they  co- hosted the Swedish Breeders Meeting in Las Vegas during the 2009 World Cup.

PARTICIPANTS: If you are a Dressage Instructor (any level) list TWO LESSONS YOU ARE GOOD AT TEACHING. If you are an upper level Rider or Instructor (4th level and above) list TWO LESSONS YOU WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE. These entries will used to create the Symposium. Upper level Riders please include a copy of a recent judged test with your entry. Multiple rides per horse are fine, so bring the schoolmasters! We request that the stalls be left clean. Please provide a short bio on your teaching career or your riding career with your entry.  Please send in your overnight boarding fee of   $ 75.00 and the Symposium fee per person is a $50.00 entry.

If you are a lower level rider (2nd – 3rd level) who aspires to move up to 4th level and FEI competitions, list 4 LESSONS YOU NEED TO LEARN. Depending on the number of Instructors and Upper Level Riders available, the management of the Symposium will consider accepting your entry. We want to encourage students who have purchased “school masters” and the lessons will be designed to help these dressage students move up the ladders. Please include a letter that best describes your riding goals.

Auditors: we need to know that you are attending for seating and lunch arrangements. A reservation for both days must be made. Please send in your entry fee of $50.00 (covers both days, $50.00 for one day).  To enter and inquiries please send an e-mail entry to Jakki at jbaltzer@bayharbor.com. or mail BHEC, Trainers Symposium 5251 US 31 Bay Harbor, MI 49770.
