Hearing from a Breeder ! Louisville's Atlas
The wonderful world of Breeding brings you news like this ….
“Atlas has his fathers gaits and temperament. He has a hind leg that makes people’s jaw drop. Honestly! He has a powerful, uphill canter that gets rounder as he powers up. He is happy to be with other horses but has the confidence to be by himself. I watch Mike ride him around the farm. He doesn’t spook at all. He may look at things but can think things through. He was the easiest horse to start under saddle. Bold and confident. He really takes after his sire. Thank god.
We plan take him to the Oldenburg ISR inspection this fall. He was slow to develop but now we can see his full potential.”
Atlas is being ridden now so hopefully we will see videos, mare photos and more Atlas pictures soon !
Thanks Katie for your info…send more soon !

The Pros and Cons of Las Vegas
Pro for Vegas
We do the World Cup better than anyone.
We need to grow the sport in America – actually all over the world and the FEI has designed the WC to suit us perfectly. The World Cup includes the top sport riders from all over the World, that’s what the audiences in Las Vegas expect to see when they buy a ticket to see “an equestrian entertainment event”. That’s what the World Cup delivers !
I believe it’s a mistake to give away our 2011 and 2013 slots. The Las Vegas city fathers support the events and this year we really impressed them ! Network television is a reality now in the United States thanks to the World Cup and Bob Hughs. The biggest change we need is to reorganize with the co-operation of the airlines so they work with us, and become a partner that gains global publicity as our sport grows. Right now they are a “cost” we cannot afford. This is our most important relationship that we need to cultivate. I would like to help. Many types of animals are being shipped overseas and around the world for very low costs in order for the airlines to gain public recognition. If any of your readers out there have friendships with airline owners and executives, please contact me so we can begin to work together.
For the WC, it really isn’t about the money for everyone anymore – its prestige, its sport, and it should be on the continent one year, and in America the other. To me, the hosting of a World Cup Qualifier is a very prestigious award . Until a country has been a site for a qualifier, they should not be awarded the Finals – the Finals should, in my opinion, only be held in cities where the biggest audiences, the biggest tourist attractions surround the event. I also believe the event should feature 2 World Cup sports. I believe it’s better with two sports together, and works for the events daily time schedule design and excitement.
Until an American city can prove to me that their auditoriums and audiences can draw and match what we do in Las Vegas – then it should stay in the city of lights under Shawn Davis’s and Tim Keener’s amazing production teams. Did you see that audience ? My good friend said “It must have been great, this fantastic atmosphere, this fantastic winning from Steffen Peters, this fantastic reorganization of the nearly boring year of the dressage world. I am so happy for what has happened, and I know this is only possible to make happen in the United States.”
There are no cons for us.

Flyinge will also participate this fall in the hosting of the annual meeting of the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBSFH) and is proud to take an active role in international breeding.
Meeting attendees have a chance to win a County Saddle, the saddle recommended by the winner of the 2005 Las Vegas World Cup Grand Prix–Lingh himself. Special Edward Gal weekend and more news from the World of Dressage
By Claartje van Andel dressagedirect
Dutch dressage probably has entered a new era. At the Dutch indoor championships Edward Gal and the black Gribaldi-son Moorland’s Totilas impressed to the most. “He made me remind Bonfire and Salinero in their first appearances, a true promise for the future”, Dutch Olympic judge Jan Peeters commented with a smile.
The weekend surely was both exhaustive and emotional for Edward Gal. On Friday he was reunited with the incredible Lingh in Sweden, on Saturday and Sunday he showed his future prospect 9 year old Moorlands Totilas in Ermelo in The Netherlands to his advantage. Judges Jan Peeters, Adriaan Hamoen and Els Mouw could only find the mark 10 for the incredible piaffe the pair showed. “I almost went emotional by the feeling of this horse and the music myself”, Edward commented afterwards. The half passes, the canterwork, nothing seems a problem for the pair. “No, nothing is a problem”, Edward agreed. “The only problem if you might say so is that we still need time to gain strength. I still won’t rush. No Indoor Brabant Horseshow for me and Totilas.”
Gal and Lingh reunited for once
Friday the 13th of March proved to be a fantastic night in Southern Sweden at Flyinge. In the cold spring weather walking through candlelight, the famous dressage stallion Lingh entered the main arena in Flyinge once again reunited with his former rider Edward Gal.
For Edward the moment was filled with emotions. After all, it is Lingh that was the horse for his high rise to the top of the world as a dressage rider. He trained the horse since 4 years old for a period over 10 years. Lingh looked absolutely gorgeous together again with Edward. The Dutch team of Edward’s could not hold the tears in their eyes when watching this majestic horse performing once again. A lot of people cried.
Owner and rider Karin Offield said: “Lingh looked like he had to rethink again how Dutch was spoken, after 2 and a half years of American English. Also more recently now all the Swedish spoken from his team in Flyinge. But very quickly he seemed relaxed and obviously very satisfied to realize he knew what was asked of him. All the tricks of GP dressage looked as easy as they could and Lingh showed his amazing qualities especially in his changes on every stride and his piaffe and passage. His pirouettes were spot-on!”
The dark evening, with all the stallions of Flyinge being warmed up and prepared for their performances in the main arena, was full of atmosphere and a little bit of magic. There is something very special about these imposing father animals when they are all together in a chilly arena and smelling the spring in the air. The nature obviously is letting them know that a new season is starting, but their modern life is still controlled by the stallion masters, riders and grooms. The Flyinge staff dressed up in19th century traditional clothing gave the stallion show the extra element of a theatre performance and a full hall of spectators could once again see what Flyinge has to offer for the breeding season of 2009.
The CEO of Flyinge, Johan Bredberg and the breeding director Karl Henrik-Heimdahl, both addressed Lingh in their speeches and are extremely happy to have gotten this world class stallion to Flyinge. Karin Reid Offield was also very happy to see how her decision to place Lingh into Sweden and Flyinge has proved to be very successful. Lingh is in fantastic condition and enjoying his Swedish life.
Edward said after his afternoon ride to prepare on Lingh that for him this was a strange feeling. He knows this horse so well and yet a period of time has gone and in some ways Lingh feels like a new horse. But in the show at night it incredibly suddenly felt like the old days! Edward genuinely thanked Karin Offield and the Swedish audience for surrounding him on this moment and he promised to be back in Sweden soon!

Edward Gal to Ride Lingh at the Flyinge Stallion Show
Wellington, FL-Everyone remembers the incredible partnership between Lingh and Edward Gal, whether at the 2005 FEI World Cup Dressage Finals where they were second or at any of the other numerous CDIs and championship shows where they won classes and hearts worldwide. Once again fans will have the joy of watching the partnership for the first time since Lingh’s sale to Grand Prix rider Karin Reid Offield in 2006. The pair will perform at the Flyinge Stallion Show on March 13 in Sweden, and excitement is already beginning to build. This news comes on the heels of a very exciting few months for the handsome bay stallion. He was recently approved by the Swedish studbook, and his son Beau was named Reserve Champion Colt at the KWPN stallion approvals in February.
“I am thrilled to have Edward ride Lingh,” says owner Karin Reid Offield, who successfully competed with Lingh in both the U.S. and Europe. “Along with all their fans, I am looking forward to watching them demonstrate the connection I know will never be lost.” For ticketing and hotel information, contact http://www.flyinge.se.
Earlier this year Lingh was approved by the Swedish Warmblood Association. His outstanding results in sport along with his completion of a strict veterinary inspection and conformation evaluation resulted in his approval. Following the Flyinge Stallion Show, Lingh will attend four more stallion shows across Sweden. (The schedule can be found at http://www.lingh.nl.) Offield continues, “We are very pleased to have Lingh approved in the Swedish studbook. I have spoken with many breeders and they are excited to add his blood to their Swedish mares. Our upcoming tour of Sweden will be an excellent opportunity to meet with the Swedish breeders and learn more about their bloodlines and for them to see Lingh in person.”
Although Lingh was bred on a limited basis due to his busy performance career, his young offspring are beginning to demonstrate his potential as an impactful sire. His son Beau, out of the Star mare Sweetie W by Ferro, was awarded the Reserve Champion title at the 2009 KWPN stallion approvals in ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands. Over 900 young stallions began the approval process, and Beau was one of 26 youngsters to receive approval. After receiving impressive marks and comments, Beau was part of the Select Stallion sale where he sold for 195,000 euros (more than $247,000), the highest priced dressage stallion and second highest priced horse overall. Bred and registered by Jan Lamers and Mrs. Van de Goor, Beau shows the tremendous movement and excellent conformation of his father. “Beau is a wonderful example of the quality offspring that Lingh produces,” Offield says. A large collection of offspring video, as well as Lingh competition footage is being compiled on Lingh’s official websitehttp://www.lingh.nl.
On American soil, Lingh’s son Landmark VT, out of the Jorn mare Odet II, has also been earning accolades. He was the winner of the ISR/OLD Two Year Old and Younger class with an impressive 80.40% at last year’s Dressage at Devon. He also earned Reserve Champion Colt and Reserve Champion Young Horse at Dressage at Lexington. Landmark VT was bred by Virginia Tech as a result of a donated breeding by Offield. “We try to find little opportunities to give back to the industry. To have Landmark VT become so successful at such a young age is a tremendous reward,” Offield explains. “The young colt is now for sale by Virginia Tech and we are all looking forward to seeing him develop under saddle as he matures.”
Lingh is not the only Offield Farm stallion earning recognition. Hexagon’s Louisville, the 2006 Grand Prix Adult Amateur USDF Horse of the Year, was well represented last season in Europe by his daughter Wonderella, out of the Rubiquil mare Hexagon’s Sinderella. Wonderella competed in the World Championships for Young Horses in Verden Germany with rider Raz Nitzani. The mare received an 8.0 for her trot, a 7.5 for her canter and an overall score of 7.38 in the 5-Year-Old Finals. “Louisville was a wonderful horse for me and for his rider in the Netherlands. I am not at all surprised that his offspring are beginning to show their talent in sport.” Louisville, by Burggraaf out of the Vesins XX mare Wenda, was part of the Dutch B Team that included Jazz and Idocus, among others. With Offield, he was invited to compete in the 2006 USEF National Freestyle Championships where he was sixth in the Grand Prix and eighth in the Grand Prix Freestyle. Both Louisville and Lingh are represented by Hassler Dressage in the United States.

UPDATE on the Swedish Approval of LINGH
THE JUDGES CRITIQUE OF LINGH
The Swedish Warmbloods are Bred for Success
The Swedish Warmbloods are Bred for Success. That is their motto and by all accounts they utilize a system of judging and selecting breeding stock that is being constantly reviewed and renewed to make certain the right decisions from the panels are made. The breeders of correct young dressage and jumping horses are being encouraged to stay the course and keep breeding ! As the english speaking owner of Lingh, I found that understanding the mostly Swedish reports of the Swedish approvals very difficult, but I am hoping to report with some super translation help soon ! In the meantime, I was sent to this site. He is number #79
http://www.equipe.nu/en-US/class_sections/264/results#video
I am collecting beautiful photographs of Lingh and I am trying to learn how to upload, download, and freeload, the videos I took for lingh.nl.
The Swedish Warmblood Association included LINGH in their list of approved stallions !!! The results were announced last night at a huge party celebrating the breeders and the process…..more story and pictures will be posted here ! U-tube also has video on line of his in hand and conformation examination. Stayed tuned for a site dedicated to Lingh and his videos !!! What a stallion !
Unbelievable…. tonight Lingh’s first super colt was RESERVE CHAMPION ! It was a KWPN extravaganza of beautiful horses, amazing people and passion for the horse. Congratulations to everyone associated with the event and Beau ! More info to follow and pictures too !
The son of Lingh, Beau, came through three tough inspections with flying colors on Saturday afternoon. The Reserve Champion Title was finally Beau’s to take home by the lucky owners of this fine animal. Beau was chosen second to the 66 listed stallions whose owners took the time and considerable effort to bring their best horse to this stage towards KWPN approval. Beau was first presented at the KWPN Hengstenkeuring 2008/2009 in December for the first round towards becoming a KWPN approved breeding stallion worthy of this prestigious title.
“Beau is an absolutely beautiful horse, I would like to have him in my stable but I am very confident this is just the beginning of Lingh’s amazing career as a successful breeding stallion. What I love about being a stallion owner, and the owner of Lingh is that I am able to share the lives of all these colts and fillies with their very proud owners. I like meeting people that are passionate and I like sharing their dreams. Beau is particularly special to me because he was born on my birthday. One day I hope to ride him.”
Lingh’s Beau was successful in making the KWPN Auction very successful. He was the highest priced dressage colt sold Saturday afternoon, For a moment the crowd expected him to win, but the lovely Bordeaux by United bred by Nelly Lisman took home the top honor

Edward told us after his afternoon ride on Lingh that for him this was a strange feeling. He knows this horse so well and yet a period of time has gone and in some ways Lingh feels like a new horse. As Edward has developed himself as a rider, Lingh too has matured. The possibility for Edward to be able to ride him again was very appreciated and he thanked many times Karin for inviting him to do this. Edward also genuinely thanked the Swedish audience for surrounding him on this moment and he promised to be back in Sweden soon!
