Saying goodbye to DressageDirect –

Friends Forever

Friends Forever

Claartje writes….We received a wonderful letter from our first moment-sponsor and friend Karin Reid Offield that we like to share with you.

November 29th 2014

Dear Claartje and trusted writers at DressageDirect,

I wanted to write a personal and unsolicited letter to Claartje today after receiving her letter telling us that DressageDirect’s amazing life has come to an end.

I first met Claartje at the World Cup in Las Vegas in 2005. We had many things in common and our conversations those days led us to a friendship that has lasted these many years. Our goal over the years was to promote dressage. I have been a fierce advocate for DressageDirect. I believe the intrinsic value of DressageDirect, more than any source of public equestrian relations, is that Claartje and her DressageDirect has single handedly made the topsport of Dressage GLOBAL in every meaning of the word. She took the results of EVERY CDI around the world and sent them directly to our “handies”, our cellphones, then to the newer smartphones and then of course to the ole reliables – our home computers. The results of CDI Dressage events were not to be found “off in some cyber space”, there were no websites that we had to seek out, no “links” we had to find, DressageDirect sought us out – the results found us where ever we were standing, around the world. DressageDirect announced in a reliable and easy to read format the winners in descending order of every Grand Prix, Special and Grand Prix Freestyle.

If that effort and service were not enough, she did a follow-up DressageDirect News in English and German so that we were up to date on fascinating background details that she herself had gathered or via her trusted corps of writers around the world. Claartje was the essential one-man band with a loyal and respected following of photographers and writers. I am so proud to have been her colleague, with Lingh.nl offering over the years free memberships to DressageDirect to members of the United States Dressage Federation; collaborations between the American Hanoverian Association and the KWPN-NA bringing members of both organizations to DressageDirect for free 6 month memberships; and free memberships were offered to Lingh breeders at Hassler Dressage, among others. DressageDirect made us friends around the world.

Thank you Claartje and team for a one of a kind journey. I challenge the rest of the equestrian public relations industry to take up where Claartje leaves off and keep Dressage in our Global eye.

I never erased a one,

love Karin and Lingh

Chakar – by Lingh

My blog is something I care very much about. I like to bring us all news of Lingh, our life here in the United States, and sometimes special events…This summer I received a beautiful photograph of a Lingh foal – all grown up now at 7 years of age. In his photo he is a 6 year old. The owner writes to me….

Hi Karin,

Here Chakar is a 6 year old. He is a very kind and happy horse. He is a horse with a baby look and I think he is very young at heart, still not like an adult horse. When I ride him he is very willing to work, but there is also a special spirit in him. It’s like he is a big child with sometimes a jump in him to keep you awake, but most of the time he is very very obedient.

He’s a very nice horse to work with, and everyone that knows him adores him because of his look and his kindness. They all want to ride on him because he is so easy to work with.

He is very light to ride. He is kind to every horse and human. He doesn’t like leg protection, and he hates bread but loves apples! When I groom him he stand patiently and when I walk away he walks behind me.

This story says it enough: He is a very good horse, by character and appearance!

Greetings,

Anja van Weeren

Karin’s Lesson Horses for Sale – Need Great Homes

September  2014

Dear Friends, In 2010 when Kate and I opened Brek-n-Ridge Farm in Harbor Springs, Michigan we wanted to create a stable where adults and children could come to take lessons and learn to ride dressage. We have accomplished that goal and more, and in the four years we have accumulated these amazing horses that are now being offered for sale.

LESSON HORSES FOR SALE

We know them; we trust them and we can recommend them!

All horses have been kept up to date with vaccinations, farrier and dental work. All have Coggins, so they are ready to take to a show right away! Contact either Kate or Karin for an appointment to try these horses or for more information.

ANNIE is a black and white Pinto mare born July 10, 2000. Annie’s sire was a stallion named BOXCARJACK and her dam was a mare named LTJ Littlestrawberry. Registered by the Pinto Horse Association of America, Annie stands 13 hh and easily carries adults and tall children. She is an intermediate to advanced lesson horse.

Annie will be showing up to 2nd Level Dressage this summer. She will also be jumping at our regional Stepping Stones shows for the third summer in a row. She has been shown in dressage, equitation and jumping. She excels in all.

She is a fast learner, jumping brush boxes, coops and small oxers. She likes a brave rider, and she has a lot of heart and a get up and go attitude. She is a mare with a big engine, NOT a slow poke and she adores trail rides and cross-country and she could easily become a Three Day Event Pony.

Her 2013 rider says about Annie ….“When I learned to ride at Brek-n-Ridge, I rode and showed Boxcar Annie. She was the perfect pony for me to learn on. Her energetic attitude with just the right amount of stubbornness ensured that I learned how to do everything correctly if I wanted her co-operation. I gained lots of confidence riding Annie, and along with Karin’s instruction I learned a lot of techniques that I use on my own horses everyday. Riding at Brek-n-Ridge Farm for the past three summers has been an opportunity that I will never forget.”

Sweet natured and reliable, Annie stands for the vet and farrier. $2500

Zorro - loves to teach

Zorro has become a lesson horse for beginners, advanced and adult riders. He won many dressage classes at STEPPING STONES schooling shows and was Champion of the Year in our region. He has been shown at USDF shows through First Level.

We want a home for him where there will be professional training. We hope for a rider that is learning to become confident and who wants to go “up the ladder” in the dressage world, Western and English !

Zorro is a kind soul and we have been blessed to have him teach our students. Good on trails. Best turned out with other geldings. $3200

IMG_1443

ULKE is a 15 year old registered Friesian gelding imported from the Netherlands. He was originally trained to drive carts, and in April 2010 he arrived at Brek-n-Ridge Farm to be trained as a riding horse.

In training by Karin,  he is being offered for sale as an Intermediate Dressage prospect. Ulke is used in our intermediate to advanced lesson horse program. Karin also uses him for riders learning to trot. He enables the instructor to walk as he jogs along. He is currently working on all Training Level movements and developing his canter.

He is great on trails and pastures with other horses. He is a sweet, kind and loving horse looking for a forever home.

RED STAR/Ridge Run is a registered American thoroughbred racehorse (2010) by Quaker Ridge out of Determined to win by Jack Slade b 2007. 15.3 hh, She has been raced but is calm and kind. Been shown USDF dressage through First Level and has jumped 2ʼ6” courses.

She is easy to ride and even in chilly weather she is quiet and sensible. She will be at Brek-n-Ridge until the right person comes along. Suitable for an adult, youth, amateur or professional rider and she is a good lesson horse. She is being trained to become quiet in the bridle and excels also in the hackamore.

*Huge potential and big movements. *Safe horse. *Easy jumper, experience in dressage arenas, might be a terrific three day eventer. *She is very smart, does NOT want to touch the rails *She is still green and ready for YOU to put on the final touches. She will become an easy horse to ride in the dressage arenas.

• Super calm in cross ties • Easy to turn-out, good in groups • Affectionate • Nice personality • Picks up feet easily • Clips, trailers and ties • Easy to mount, narrow – bodied not wide in the ribcage • Listens to rider with very light aids • Careful and observant of her feet • Easy learner and willing • Balanced and easy changes

**Loves other horses, good for turnout with both mares and geldings. $7000

About Karin Reid Offield Clinic’s in Grand Rapid’s in 2012:

On January 20 and 21, 2012 Serenity Farm proudly hosted Karin Reid-Offield as the clinician for the first clinic in the Grand Rapids area’s ADA Winter Clinic Series. “Karin is a clinician at Serenity Farm and so the line-up of riders consisted of some familiar faces as well as some new ones. It was fun to see the great improvement in the horses. I truly wish I had taken video to compare the first and last five minutes of each ride. One would have thought there were months of training between the two performances. Once again, this proves how important it is for us to have a ground person with has a keen eye for what the judges are looking for. Without that, bad habits can form since things go unnoticed and uncorrected,” noted Serenity Farm’s owner Janine Holmes.

Participant Kim Nobel, an accomplished and longtime western rider: “Karin put us right at ease. The focus of our lesson was to do a dance, not just the geometrical movements. We’ve thrown away the spurs and are learning to communicate subtly. It’s all about making the dance beautiful!

While enjoying‘ summer time grilled burgers’ for lunch, Karin engaged in numerous discussions with riders and auditors. Questions were asked and answers given, stories were told and experiences shared. Everyone benefitted from Karin’s background and training with Olympians Robert Dover and her overseas experience and the wisdom she gained while living with multiple Gold Medal winner Anky van Grunsven. All agreed that Karin was easy to understand, that what she taught made perfect sense.

For more information about Brek-n-Ridge Farm visit For more information go to www.breknridgefarm.com to read about the stable, email us at lessontime@yahoo.com, visit the Harbor Springs area to visit the farm at 7359 South Lake Shore Drive and learn more about the world famous dressage stallion LINGH owned by Karin and now standing at stud in Germany. INTRODUCING KARIN’S 2014 WORKING STUDENT

Memi Pearsall is a 17 year old and from Richmond, Virginia. Her mother is Robin Johnson of Virginia and Harbor Springs, Mi. She has been riding since she was 7 years old and she started riding in Virginia and continued to Chatham Hall, an all girls boarding school in southern Virginia. At Chatham Hall she was able to expand her experience from the Hunters into Equitation by joining the school’s IEA team. Each year she moved up a division and started showing in the intermediate division of IEA eventually qualifying for Regionals. She also competed in a Jumper show in Sedgefield, North Carolina.

Memi does not own her own horses, yet every day she is assigned to ride one or more of the 30-40 school horses available at Chatham Hall. The girls ride five days a week, which allows the students to grow as riders and athletes. This summer was her first year working for Brek-n-Ridge Farm as a working student for Kate Etherly and Karin Offield.

Brek-n-Ridge went on the road this summer competing in shows in Sutton’s Bay and the Leelanau Peninsula. Brek-n-Ridge student McKenzie Becker joined up with Memi and Andrew Figures in Dressage competition. Memi competed in the jumping shows with the Brek-n-Ridge jumping horses Boxcar Annie and Redstar. Memi won an important flat class with Redstar, a pretty chestnut mare new to the stable and trainer Karin Offield. “ Memi successfully accomplished many of my goals for the summer. I am grateful that she joined up with us and worked so hard.I appreciate working with these young students and looking at their riding from their point of view and discovering how I can teach them to reach for more in their equestrian dreams. ” Karin says.

When it comes to dressage Memi had this to say….”I learned a lot this summer about a type of riding I was totally unfamiliar with, to begin with. Although the hunter/jumper world is about achieving perfection, dressage takes this concept to a whole new level. I was surprised and knocked down a peg when I tried dressage for the first time and realized that all this time I couldn’t even ride a proper circle. The beauty of dressage is working to make everything perfect and having harmony with your horse. The thing I learned abut dressage this summer will and already has translated into my work in the hunters. It’s been a very interesting experience to be judged by the eyes of people who see riding in a whole new way in which doing something “good enough” won’t suffice. In dressage, nothing is ever perfect, you always need more flexion here or to be more geometric with your patterns or any number of other things a judge could find. However, I’ve found that the beauty lies not in the achievement of this perfection, but in the journey with your horse to achieve it.”

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) Equine Protection program works to end the slaughter of American horses, promote humane horsemanship, give sanctuary to abused and rescued horses, and stop cruel practices like the soring of show horses. In 2014, in conjunction with The HSUS’s 60th anniversary, we will work tirelessly to raise awareness and advocate for passage of state and federal legislation, including the SAFE Act, to permanently end the slaughter of American horses for human consumption. It is time we protect these noble animals whose history is tied so closely to our own.

Introducing Be Blingh

“In the beginning, Blingh was very easy to handle and ride.  Now there is no harm in her, she is so sweet, willing to do anything and not easily scared. There was one time I could not ride her for almost 4 months and when I began to ride her again I just stepped up and rode away,  like it was yesterday’ s ride!

What is so special about her is that she so steady –  you can really trust her, no harm, beautiful eyes, easy to ride and she learns quickly. She has a pretty head with beautiful eyes.  She is a very compact horse, with everything in the right proportion.”

GIBSON is 2nd HIGHEST PRICED PURCHASE AT 2014 KWPN AUCTION

Gibson in the Third Round

GIBSON is HIGHEST PURCHASE AT AUCTION

The elegant Jazz son Gibson (dam sire Lingh) was laid claim to by Russia’s Nataliya Bronnikova for €78,000. Gibson is expected to undergo his performance test in Ermelo.
___________________________________________

The 14th annual KWPN Select Sale was the closing act of another successful edition of the KWPN Stallion Show Powered by Massey Ferguson. Yesterday, four wildcards were added to the 25 stallions already selected for the auction. Despite no mega-bids this year, sales totaled more than €1,000,000. Eighteen of the stallions auctioned have been selected for the performance test.

The KSS opened by garnering support for a good cause: the DVB Foundation, which will receive a €4,000 bid for a breeding to the KWPN stallion Franklin (s.Ampère).Among the regular bids, the elegant Jazz son Gibson (ds.Lingh) was laid claim to by Russia’s Nataliya Bronnikova for €78,000. Gibson is expected to undergo his performance test in Ermelo. At a previous KSS, Nataliya purchased the now KWPN-approved stallion Kartsevo’s Etoile (s.Don Schufro); and on a side note, she brought the Gelder stallion Upperville with her from Russia, where he normally stands at stud. The purpose of his visit to the Netherlands was to show in the VHO Trophy competition and attract more breeders. Upperville succeeded on both counts!

WE WISH THE OWNERS OF GIBSON GREAT SUCCESS TO THE FUTURE!   Karin and Lingh

Breeding your mares ? Please consider Lingh this year!

Press Release: January 29, 2014

Frozen semen is definitely mainstream with most vets and a majority of breeders around the world in this day and age—good news not only for expanding a stallion’s market internationally but also especially for those stallions who come under heavy demand with their local markets. We have strong international interest for Lingh’s services and are delighted to be readily meeting that market.

“Lingh’s frozen semen has performed exceptionally. His overall frozen semen pregnancy rate is nearly 70%! Exciting and encouraging too for Lingh breeders is the fact that Lingh has successfully settled older mares that were never bred before due to long career in sport. It’s very nice to be able to say that Lingh made a lot of breeders very happy!” shares Karin.

Lingh is strong and healthy today, happily living out his years at Stal Birkhof in the south of Germany where he continues to service mares across Europe. Hassler Dressage continues to manage his services for the North American market and EquiBreed NZ Ltd has inventory available for the NewZeland and Australian markets.

Mare Owners, don’t miss the opportunity to access Lingh during these final years of his breeding life.  Karin shares, “Consistently in my conversations with Lingh breeders, I hear how special, easy going and nice to handle his foals are.”  The offspring have long legs; they are well balanced with good front ends and have notable elasticity and power in their movements – all qualities we want for dressage horses and sport horses.  Karl Henrik-Heimdahl, Flyinge’s former Breeding Director emphatically adds, “Lingh is suitable for most kind of mares.”

Hassler Dressage is accepting applications for mares to be considered for his remaining influence. “We continue to maintain a high standard for Lingh’s mares as such precious genetics should not be squandered! We are highly confident in Lingh’s ability to produce pregnancies and ultimately, quality foals for today’s competitive market,” shares Susanne Hassler, Director of Breeding at Hassler Dressage. “I am looking forward to seeing his legacy endure for years to come!“

Go to www.lingh.nl to find lots of pictures of his mares, foals, and their achievements as well as the wonderful Lingh Video Library.
