Lingh’s offspring in the USA – Faline x Darwin x Ferro

Faline Lingh was born 4/4/2010. Her dam is “Wraine Dancer” (KWPN). Wraine Dancer’s sire is Darwin – he is by Roemer (pref) out of Zonnatettie (ster, prest). Wraine Dancer’s dam Kourante (keur) is by Ferro (pref) out of Warmante (keur pref prest). I believe this mare is for sale !

I just received this from the breeder!

Dear horse family:

Had to share… you saw her baby photos… and now our Faline (Lingh x Darwin x Ferro) has grown into truly the most elegant & feminine warmblood I have ever EVER seen, anywhere!!! and wow can she move. She has me on the edge of my seat – so exciting to watch her go! :)))) Breaker Rafael Perez has taken over the ride on Faline for a few weeks, to finish starting her under saddle. (After breaking my back last year, I’m afraid to say I’ve lost my nerve for getting turned loose in the big ring on youngsters, maybe I’ll get it back but I chickened out after getting up on Faline the first few times in the round pen. She was easy and agreeable…. but I just couldn’t face the open space of the arena.) Every time I see her now with a human being (Rafael) up on her, I am just astounded that this is the same little foal that Victor & I helped birth; we each held a leg as she emerged from Willow! Just extraordinary to see her now, looking like an adult, and thinking about the passage of time and this quest that started SEVEN years ago!!! (first year no pregnancy, second year pregnant with Ellinghton who died, third year pregnant with Faline… a year later she was born. Three years later we can sit on her!!!  I just can’t get over it!! I stand in there in the middle of the arena just staring, mesmerized.  :)))) Such a thrill. (and… so much more fun just to watch at this stage. :)))))

-Catherine
‎”Faline’s Story” ~ Catherine finished a 3-minute film clip, from her first day on the planet to today. Such a thrill to help birth her with our own hands!  Can’t wait to finally hop up on her back in April!! :)))  See above !!

It’s Spring and time to consider Lingh as the father of your Foals

Interview with Karin about Lingh after Maastricht, a few years ago

This is a nice interview from Europe TV where I talk about Lingh.  Enjoy!

LINGH PREFORMS at EQUITANA, in ESSEN, GERMANY MARCH 17TH

A large number of premieres, exclusive training lessons, unforgettable show highlights and unique encounters – never before has EQUITANA offered such variety. From 16 to 24 March the world’s largest equestrian sports fair brings together the most popular trainers, world-class riders and show stars. Also starring: 1,000 horses, 860 exhibitors and 200,000 riders and horse lovers from all parts of the world.

At this place we’ll mention the stallions, the highlight of March 17. Dressage stars such as Lingh, Don Diamond or Florenciano, national champions such as Escolar or Colestus and licensing winners such as Damsey or Enzo Ferrari: these are the stars at STALLIONS 2013, the great EQUITANA breeding show on 17 March. Here major studs and stallion keepers from all parts of Germany present their winners and shooting stars, exceptional sires and young champions from German sport horse and pony breeding.

This year the participants include Gestut Birkhof (with Lingh and Don Diamond among others), the Ludger Beerbaum stud (Florenciano and Escolar), Ferienhof Stücker (Friedensritter and Enzo Ferrari), Jens Meyer stallion station (Cashman, Damsey, Hampton), the recently opened Massener Heide stallion station (Cachassini and Colestus) and many more. Besides, the Pony Forum will provide evidence of the successful pony breeding “Made in Germany”.

USA Offers Friendly Education for Horses in Wellington, Florida

The International Polo Club hosted the dining and care of the guests

The International Polo Club hosted the dining and guests

Everyday, people all over the world can be happier, can be smarter, can move faster or slower, and they   can learn more about horses. Wellington,  Florida offers visitors more equestrian education than any place on earth!

Consider this: January 21 and January 22 – The 2013 Succeed/US Dressage Federation FEI Level Trainer’s Conference – Two days of watching Steffen Peters and Scott Hassler work with eight riders riding some of America’s up and coming young stars. Steffan rode many of these horses and it was incredible to see.

The trainers’ conference allows FEI-Level trainers’ and other individuals, who meet the attendee criteria, to see training techniques and interact with these two, world class dressage trainers, as they analyze each horse, determine where to start, and identify training problems and how to solve them.

My favorite training tips : Give the horse a purpose in the warm-up; reach forward gently into the bit; reaching is great, not pulling the rider; show them the way to relax; when they fuss- not ok; interrupt those habits with different exercises; keep your standards high; difference of ‘forward’ and ‘fast’; brings your best to the horse. Say “I am here, trust me.”; do not kick when there is tension, kick when the horse is not paying attention – but not much; balanced contact; ask for bending, then wait it out; guide your horse into a frame; create the ‘sensation’ of the shoulder-in; make sure the horse does not run away, out of balance when you release; energy stays in the body of the horse not out the door; make the passage available in the half pass; test the situation; collect because of the movements; testing the similarity, the reliable; passage gets better by changing the passage; momentarily be stronger to make your horse lighter; connection needs to be manageable and guidable; ride clearly, set your horse up for success, so that the horse has the chance to get it right; a lot of great words from Steffen and Scott!

Thank you to the staff!

Thank you to the staff!

January 24, 25 and 26th arrived with the World Dressage Masters Palm Beach 2013. Competing for one of the richest prize money show series in the world the WDM CDI – 5*  is the highest endowed dressage show in the US featuring many European top riders. Sponsors, judges, officials, competitors and spectators praised the event from the facilities to the friendly atmosphere to the appreciative crowd.

SPONSOR SAYS THE WELLINGTON SHOW IS UNIQUE IN THE WORLD!

Antonia Axel Johnson, title sponsor of World Dressage Masters series “We don’t know of any show in the world where when you ride in, the rider coming out says ‘Have a good ride.’ And that is really unique, I think, for the WDM show here,” she said.  “It’s really extremely exciting and nice to be here.”

THE WINNER, Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfven floated through her freestyle beautifully. IMG_0235International Judge Stephen Clarke spoke highly of Vilhelmson-Silfven’s freestyle ride. “Tinne’s horse, for me, it’s absolutely what dressage should be about,” Clarke said. “It’s all the talk about horses that should be uphill and in balance and in complete harmony with the rider. The picture that she presents is, for me, truly outstanding, and I think that we were very lucky to witness that tonight.”

On January 28 and 29th Wellington, Florida hosted the North America Dressage Forum. A two-day educational program featuring four lecturers, six clinicians and 12 panelists. Dressage training techniques for the development of horse and rider are analyzed and presented in both practical and theoretical sessions. Forum topics also include the latest developments in horse management, veterinary practices and sports sciences. Aside from the education, my favorite things that happened during the Forum were running into old friends and making new friends. That’s the beauty of such a gathering.

My favorite suggestions and training tips... “The horses show you what is possible;  a lot of time-outs; I train my horses in the best horsemanship in mind; more balance in the tempe changes; there is a huge knowledge gap, we need to train people to watch dressage knowledgeably; don’t use your strength to compensate for your horse not coming back to you, use it for a temporary fix; counter positing to gain contact; gently forward; rib cage up in position; use all the possibilities of the neck to create positive tension; if the quality of the rhythm gets lost then there is too much bending; pick up speed to get contact; improve the gaits, if you lose the quality – use the inner leg; keep giving the reins to prove the horse is independent; as collection is higher, the connection is lighter.”  Thank you to all these equestrians from all over the world for the time you gave us.

Clinicians:  Ingrid Klimke – Germany , Steffen Peters – USA, Wolfram Wittig – Germany and Rudolf Zeilinger – Germany, Arthur Kottas – Austria and Bo Jena – Sweden will present and demonstrate theories, philosophies and methods on the training and development of dressage horses and riders. Each of these clinicians use one or two riders or horses to demonstrate their technique.

Panelists: Christoph Hess, Stephen Clark, Wim Ernes, Gary Rockwell, Lendon Gray, Sue Blinks, Anne Gribbons, Kathy Connelly, Betsy Steiner, Leslie Reid, Jan Ebeling and Felicitas von Neumann Cosel.

Lecturers: Dr. Hilary Clayton-maintaining soundness in the dressage horse; Dr. Grant Moon-shoeing the competitive dressage horse; Dr. Ina Gosmeier-natural medicine and acupuncture for the sport horse; Dr. Juan Samper-the art and science of breeding a dressage horse.

The mild weather in Florida allows you to enjoy sun shine daily, the temperatures range in the 70 and 80 degrees.

On January 30 and 31st I was able to watch Conrad Schumacher teach his system for 3 hours. Over the years the videos of Conrad teaching riders have played in many stables across the United States. Coming to Wellington enables you a window into the global world of horsemanship. We are so lucky!

How we can make the shows better in Wellington?  Attend them all, compliment the staff and volunteer , send your friends, teach them the basics of Dressage 101, give the kids pictures of the top horses, sign autographs, enter and pay the entry fees, support the shows, volunteer and return every year if only to watch your friends ride their best ride of the day!

and finally desert!

and finally in time for desert!

THE GENEROUSITY IN THE HORSEWORLD IS OVERWHELMING…..HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF OUR FRIENDS AROUND THE WORLD AND IN OUR SPECIAL CORNERS of NORTHERN MICHIGAN!!

Hannah and Rusty

Okay- the secret is out! Here is a picture of Hannah and Rusty together. They are SO beautiful together! Would love to do a story about the generosity of Diana Hadsall and her daughter Janelle who donated Rusty to Tapawingo Farms!

576486_3673219302237_1416088477_n

Rusty DHP has several titles to his credit,

including 2009 Open Training Level Champion

at Dressage by the Bay.

Hannah Ernst, pictured above, is one of the many children who love the horses of Tapawingo Farms and she said, “I would like to thank Diana Hadsall for providing me with such a sweet, kind and gentle, partner to advance my riding career this coming season. He is AWESOME! He will become an amazing addition to our barnyard of animals.”

574848_3673219942253_165187446_n UNDER THEIR CHRISTMAS TREE WAS A HORSE!

 Happy New Year everyone!!

Karin writes….“Introducing the 2013 team of Hannah Ernst and Rusty DHP. One of our 2012-2013 working students at Brek-n-Ridge Farm woke up on Christmas morning a very happy young lady. I got to know Hannah’s mother, Jessie Beckett, during the spring of 2012.  She and her family own and operate Tapawingo Farms. They reach at-risk, abused, and neglected children throughout the Upper Michigan area utilizing the quiet strength of horses and other animals.  Hannah is their oldest girl and she will be riding Rusty for the 2013 show season… We wish the entire team at the Farm, their good friend and dressage instructor and enthusiast Suzanne Morisse good Luck and God speed in their good works with animals!”

Jesse writes to me, “Thanks so much to equine photographer Diana Hadsall and her daughter Janelle Deisig from Deisig Dressage for their generous gift of the18 year old thoroughbred gelding, Rusty DHP, to Tapawingo Farms in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.I discovered Rusty on Karin Reid Offield’s Facebook Page – and on the Brek-n-Ridge Farm site. Hannah and Nate have been working with Karin since early in the summer as working students ….I wrote Karin a quick reply when I saw the beautiful photograph of Rusty, thinking that maybe Rusty would be a candidate for Nathan – but “Nathan’s too tall for Rusty” Karin said, so this beautiful horse went into the back of my mind – then suddenly I thought – why not for Tapawingo ? ? ?

Rusty will become an integral part of the programs offered by Tapawingo Farms. This wonderful gentleman horse will be used for pony camps, as well as private lessons, and will be ridden by advanced students in the Sault Area Equestrian Team and Riverside 4-H Club. Thanks to the generosity of our community, including people like Diana Hadsall and Janelle Deisig, we are creating a place where kids can do AMAZING things!”

WESTERN DRESSAGE INSTRUCTION

Clinic at Brek-n-Ridge Farm in Harbor Springs, Michigan

“The winning difference between first, second and third place in dressage is in the small details,” Offield says, “and those details come from years of experience teaching, training and riding.I have a strong background in the world of western riding and we love to teach. I welcome students and their trainers to visit us in Harbor Springs this Fall, Winter and Spring to learn about Dressage. Western Dressage rocks ! We are located 30 minutes from the Mac Bridge, 2 hours from TC and less than 4 hours from Grand Rapids. We have extra corrals and a small barn for extended visits.”

Participants will ride a test of choice – the Basic or Primary Test  (as if at a show) while being judged by Karin Reid Offield.  A 45min. lesson will follow and Karin and Kate will work with you to improve your test results. Plan for a one-hour time commitment.

About Karin Reid Offield Clinic’s in Grand Rapid’s in 2012:

On January 20 and 21, 2012 Serenity Farm proudly hosted Karin Reid-Offield as the clinician for the first clinic in the Grand Rapids area’s ADA Winter Clinic Series. “Karin is a clinician at Serenity Farm and so the line-up of riders consisted of some familiar faces as well as some new ones. It was fun to see the great improvement in the horses. I truly wish I had taken video to compare the first and last five minutes of each ride. One would have thought there were months of training between the two performances. Once again, this proves how important it is for us to have a ground person with has a keen eye for what the judges are looking for. Without that, bad habits can form since things go unnoticed and uncorrected,” noted Serenity Farm’s owner Janine Holmes.

Participant Kim Nobel, an accomplished and longtime western rider: “Karin put us right at ease. The focus of our lesson was to do a dance, not just the geometrical movements. We’ve thrown away the spurs and are learning to communicate subtly. It’s all about making the dance beautiful!

While enjoying‘ summer time grilled burgers’ for lunch, Karin engaged in numerous discussions with riders and auditors. Questions were asked and answers given, stories were told and experiences shared. Everyone benefitted from Karin’s background and training with Olympians Robert Dover and her overseas experience and the wisdom she gained while living with multiple Gold Medal winner Anky van Grunsven. All agreed that Karin was easy to understand, that what she taught made perfect sense.

Western Dressage: Frequent Questions & Answers

Western Dressage started growing in northern California at a local Morgan horse show, known as the Mother Lode Show.  The concept was simple; a platform was offered for anyone who wished to compete in dressage classes using Western tack and clothing.  Currently, Western Dressage classes are only USEF recognized in the Morgan Division.  At USEF shows which are open to all-breeds, Western Dressage classes fall under “opportunity classes.”  As the discipline grows, WD classes should increase!  The Western Dressage Association® of America offers a variety of resources for those interested in learning more about the discipline.  Here is a list of common questions and answers; these can also be found on the WDAA website.

Where do I find rules and classes for Western Dressage?

There are new rules and tests that WDAA are finalizing, which will include gait descriptions.  The new rules and tests will be ready for the 2013 competition season, and can be found on the WDAA link below.

http://westerndressageassociation.org/western-dressage-rules-tests/

What is the difference between Western Dressage and traditional Dressage?

The goals of Western Dressage and Dressage are similar. They both wish to create a better horse and rider with the use of structure and levels. The Western Dressage horse is encouraged to work and school on lighter contact than the typical dressage horses. While both want to see balance, cadence and carriage, the Western Dressage horse will be evaluated with the conformation and movement of today’s western horses in mind. The Western Dressage horse will have a shorter stride than a Dressage horse and the Western Dressage horse will be asked to walk, jog and lope as opposed to walk, trot and canter.  In keeping with the tradition of the Western horse and rider, they will be shown in Western tack and attire. These are just a few examples of the differences.

The goal of Western Dressage is to take the principles of classical dressage and bring them to the western rider.  The goal of having a strong, balanced horse who responds happily to the rider’s cues is one that will be paramount.  One of the most important hallmarks of a great Western Dressage ride is lightness in both the rider’s hands and the lightness of the front end of the Western Dressage horse.

Do I need special tack, equipment, or attire to show in Western Dressage?

No! The current USEF rule book permits riders to perform the tests in either a standard western snaffle bit, which is defined in the rule book, or in a standard western bit which is also defined there. You may use your western saddle and your western headstall and reins.

The WDAA has involved its Advisory Board in writing new rules for the 2013 competition year.  WDAA breed alliance partners who are part of the USEF will refer to these rules for Western Dressage classes in 2013.  The definition of both the snaffle and the curb bits have been refined and expanded; the use of a western style caveson or pencil bosal will be permitted with a snaffle bit.  Watch the WDAA website for the new rules and the new tests as well.  Please review the current Western Dressage rules for details (http://westerndressageassociation.org/western-dressage-rules-tests/ )

What are the Western Dressage tests?

One of the most important hallmarks of a great Western Dressage ride is lightness, in both the rider’s hands and the lightness of the front end of the Western Dressage horse.  WDAA has been hard at work on a new set of rules that does a much better job of integrating “western” with the principles of classical   dressage.  WDAA strives to create a correct, balanced horse and rider partnership.   There are several innovations in the new rules which will be available for the 2013 competition year that address this issue.  When one combines the “lightness” (that is so central to Western Dressage), with a balanced frame; one will see a more natural carriage that aims to increasingly put the horse’s weight more on the hind quarters.  Also addressed, will be the concern with the very low head carriage that has become the style in some of the western world.

New rules and test will be available for the 2013 show season!

Who teaches Western Dressage?

Any dressage instructor can teach Western Dressage as long as they are receptive to the idea of using western horses in western tack. The WDAA has developed a suggested curriculum for the instruction of Western Dressage. This curriculum will soon be available on the WDAA website. We have a discussion forum on the WDAA Social Corral for instructors to share their experiences and ideas.

How can I learn Western Dressage if there are no instructors in my area?

Getting Western Dressage instructors throughout the US will take time.  In the meantime, you can take lessons from any dressage instructor who has become familiar with the Western Dressage rules and is willing to work with western horses.  The principles of classical dressage apply to any rider and horse and are not dependent upon the tack or equipment being used.

Horseshow.com offers two excellent resources for you:  The first is an online educational video library, which can be viewed at: http://www.horseshow.com/videos/western-dressage.  These videos will help guide you in your training, and will outline proper training versus incorrect training; the second resource in the ability to enter online clinics with experts in Western Dressage for as little as $25!

How do I join the Western Dressage Association® of America and what does my membership include?

To become a member of the Western Dressage Association® of America simply go to the Member Registration page on the WDAA website. Benefits of Membership are listed on the WDAA Registration Page.

Does membership cost the same if I live outside the United States?

Yes.  Just complete the membership application form on the WDAA website.

Who judges Western Dressage?

Any licensed dressage judge can judge Western Dressage.  The WDAA has a list of judges who have judged Western Dressage classes.

Please contact the WDAA for more information at: info@westerndressageassociation.org

Are there Western Dressage shows or classes in my area?

Western Dressage classes have been offered at Morgan horse shows for several years; the Morgan World Championship offered these classes for the first time in 2011.  Breed alliance partners, the Freisian Association and the Pinto Horse Association also offered these classes at their championships in 2011 and 2012.  There are quite a number of local dressage shows that offer Western Dressage classes and the WDAA is working to encourage more shows to offer Western Dressage classes at their shows.  Contact WDAA at info@westerndressageassociation.org if you have questions.  Check out the WDAA calendar for a list of current shows and classes.  The WDAA is in the process of developing a Tool Box with information to help local horse shows hold Western Dressage classes and to assist other breeds to begin the process of getting Western Dressage included into their rules.

Do I have to join any organizations to participate in Western Dressage?

No!  You don’t have to be a member of a breed organization, the US Dressage Federation or any other group to participate in Western Dressage.  If you show at a USEF licensed show, you will need to be a member of USEF or pay a non-member fee at the show.

What is the best way to get Western Dressage started in my area?

Click on the Get Involved button (on the WDAA website) and refer to the guidelines they have made available. To assist you in getting Western Dressage started in your area, check out the How to Organize a Western Dressage Clinic for ideas.

The easiest way for you to begin your process is to put on a clinic using a recognized horseman or horsewoman specializing in Western Dressage. Once you have a group of people who have been introduced to the fundamentals of Western Dressage, you can continue to have local clinics conducted by local accredited instructors.

There is a group in Colorado who started their education with a clinic from Eitan Beth-Halachmy in July 2010. They have been meeting every two weeks ever since.  Their process is a good model for starting Western Dressage on a local level.

For more information on the Colorado Western Dressage group, click on the How to Organize a Western Dressage Clinic under Get Involved (on WDAA), or contact Bob Harb at:affiliates@westerndressageassociation.org.

INA PREPARES LINGH FOR GALA and some advice for Lingh offspring handlers.

Lingh stands as a breeding stallion in Germany. I really miss him but I cannot bring him home to Michigan. It is too far away from the mares of the sport world. Lingh’s job is to be the sire of great foals….I have spoken to many owner/ breeders and I will begin to post the stories and photos i have received. It is an exciting time in Lingh’s career – his first foals of German decent are on the ground and the Dutch offspring are competing in the low levels, and making their way up the ladders….The Swedish foals are still young. A comment that I have heard many times is that when the foals go to the shows, the Lingh foals are calm. It has been mentioned that the judges like to see “hot”  “explosive” and “wow” factors in the foals performances. A lesson is here.

My suggestion is to have your Lingh foals handled by top sport breeding handlers, experienced in “presenting” the foal to his or her BEST APPEARANCE! On the other hand, this is a skill that can be learned….so  –  good luck to all the Lingh breeders out there – keep me posted to the results or sales of the offspring. Lingh and I will follow your adventures, proudly !

WHAT IT MEANS TO TEACH….A letter from a riding student many years ago….

WHAT IT MEANS TO TEACH…..I received this note this morning from a former riding student in Sedona.

The first time i met Karin i thought she was funny-she was wearing suspenders after all. She taught me how to ride from the very beginning (i was 11) the first time she had me canter in the arena a bee hit me in the face and she made me keep going. Then my parents leased Brownie – the pony – f

rom her for me and i had that little guy for a while and then Joker – the beautiful buckskin cutting horse, who bucked me off at my first show and then Sinatra – the beautiful black quarter horse – with his one blue eye (i loved that guy) and then i, finally, got Shier Khan…….the love of my life at 14:)Karin taught me how to show, jump and Juli and i would spend hours making jumps out of the wood around El Rojo Grande Ranch and making courses for ourselves…..i miss that place…..

i miss riding now-i’m 31 and haven’t ridden in a few years….the memories of Karin and of her coaching have given me an ideal to live up to-you know the people you’ll never forget? – she’s one of them!!!!

Karin-you were always so good to me, so kind…..but also hard on me-and i really appreciate that as an adult.

Thank you Anna Lee….you were a wonder ! I am so proud of you today ! Love , Karin

THE GESTUT BIRKHOF FOAL CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS

Champion (male) dressage foals was a Lingh x Werther’s Wels colt bred by Anja and Josef Riss from Medlingen.

The dam Comtessa Corlana also gave birth to First Kiss by French Kiss and was the 2005 runner up at the Southern German approvals in Munich.  The mare is also dam to former regional champion of Baden Wurttemberg, Comtess Ferrara by Dr. Jackson. Her 2009 filly Dysharie in 2011 was best 2 year old mare (champion) at the Baden Wurttemberg show in Weilheim.

A great producing mare !

A Lingh x Grandus bred colt by Horst Baumann, Stelzenberg, finished 4th in the colts section (8.65). His dam Grosse Welt was champion mare of her breed (she is registered with Rhineland-Pfalz-Saar, so she is a „Zweibruecker“), particpated at the Broodmare championships of Germany and is dam to a former premium stallion by Abanos.

FOR THE FILLIES….the foal we wrote about earlier in New News was 6th at the Championships….

Dressage Tool Box Symposium – 2012

THE TOOL BOX VISION

My vision is that a series of Tool Box Symposiums can build synergy within regions across the United States. Ultimately, the goal is to see this lead to a designated two-year pilot program of national training centers for young horse, young rider and amateur education.

The symposium is for and about instructors. I am looking for instructors in each region that are willing to share what they are confident in teaching. The goal is to create a program where all professional equestrians have a venue where they can teach.

I am convinced that the manner in which we instruct can be improved. There are many ways to be taught, many roads to Rome to reach an understanding of a subject, and many ways for a student to learn a lesson. I hope that the Dressage Tool Box Symposium becomes a vehicle for and a place where equestrians improve their teaching, their learning and technical grasp of communication.

Additionally, the symposium is just as much for riders. Riders sharing the lessons that they need to learn, either better or differently, often by listening to a different instructor entirely. Many riders are hesitant to learn from nearby instructors or take part in events like this. To be afraid to take a lesson from a different instructor in your region or to be reluctant because your instructor might get mad, is not smart. Education and grasping experience from others is what is so amazing about life—it’s never ending. The Tool Box gives local riders the opportunity to learn from many teachers.

The symposium is also about the auditors: how they can learn to observe more carefully and see the tools in action more clearly. One of the ways to facilitate this is by asking auditors to move to a different seated vantage point for each lesson, thereby gaining multiple perspectives. Many of the auditors are riders and instructors that for various reasons are not riding at this time. We are all in this together. Every single participant should leave the symposium having made a contribution and gained new tools.

I hope that these reports about the Tool Box Symposiums will encourage you to contact me to schedule a Tool Box Symposium in your region in 2012 and 2013. First choose an amazing facility in your region that can stable up to 10 horses. Next collect 10 to 12 instructors including several university professors who specialize in learning and teaching techniques. Then find one sponsor who loves the idea of being involved in a Tool Box Symposium. Contact me at info@offieldfarms.com and I will help you build your tool box, an affordable, fun, two-day event that brings you closer to your sport and your equestrian goals.—Karin Offield

Compliments of Dressage Today, October 2010

a nice story from a Lingh fan, owner of Lotza Lingh…..the beginning!

I am back to work at my computer after a long overdue trip and a crazy busy summer of teaching riding at Brek-n-Ridge Farm. For months I hardly ever wrote on the computer, never seeming to have enough time.  It’s quiet now, the students have returned home and our days now are more our own, our schedules are free to work and dream ….I found this story on my old computer and hope you enjoy all the Lingh stories I will be posting in the coming weeks – we have lots of news!

Hi, Karin.

I have been wanting to write to you about how things are going with Lucy (Lotza Lingh).  I am on “a bit of a high”  after my second solo ride on Lucy (without someone on the ground to assist me) and just had to share it with you. AND ALL OUR LINGH FANS !!!  😉

At my age, I really thought my “horse-breaking” days were over.  I have started many young horses over the years, but my last one was in 2002.  I was 41 and I really figured it was best left to younger trainers in the future.

Then came Lucy.  I had picked out another trainer that I would send her to this fall to get her started, but I was doing all the initial ground work with her, and her sensible attitude continued to impress me.

Once I had all the ground work accomplished (longeing, wearing the tack, and a bit of line-driving), I decided Polly Yeago – Lucy’s co-owner and I could just continue the process..so I put the outside  trainer on hold and here I am, at 50, starting another 3 year old.  Never say never, right?  If it wasn’t for the fact that Lucy has clearly shown a great mind and disposition from the beginning, I wouldn’t have felt confident enough to do this.

As you know, she is marked much like her dad and her movement is quite nice.  I’m hoping her name (Lotza Lingh) is prophetic!  She already feels great to ride at the moment at only a week under saddle.  We’ll be taking it as it comes and I will keep you posted, but I can tell you one thing..she is without a doubt one of the sweetest natured horses I have worked with.  And even at this early stage, I can feel how balanced she is..even while in a typical 3 yr. old growth spurt.  Her mother, Winsome Rose, was a balanced and athletic mare, so I have high hopes given that Lingh is her sire!

I”m enclosing a random head shot that Polly managed to take of her one day in the pasture, but her pasture buddy, an old mare that sticks to her like glue, is in the background. I need  to learn how to use photoshop.  Her name “Lotza Lingh” seems well-suited. eh?   I’m also including another shot of her body, but it is not really good enough to publish, I just wanted you to see it. She had dropped some weight just before this photo, and was more filled out in the rear before.  She seems to be in a growth spurt.   I will try to get some really good shots of her for Lingh’s page.

Feel free to edit this to put on Lingh’s website. I hope you are well and I look forward to sending you more news of progress in the future.

Thanks,

Jennifer MitchellI

Thanks Jennifer, we look forward to more news ! Best Regards, Karin
